albie danged... they are edible?

from wiki:
In preparing Little Tunny for consumption, it should be bled and iced as soon as possible after being caught. There are many ways to eat the Little Tunny, such as Tuna Salad. To do this, the fillets are first baked, then chilled and flaked, then mixed in with the salad. Removing the dark strips of meats that extend the length of each fillet helps to reduce the naturally fishy flavor.[17] Another way to prepare the Little Tunny is first to bleed it, barbecue it in foil, remove the meat from the bone, and then let it chill overnight. Various seasonings can be used to enhance the flavor. Fresh steaks can be quite good if seasoned with salt, pepper and lemon, and thinly sliced tunny makes good sashimi. It is commonly eaten as such in Japan.

Anyone eat em?

I will eat them all day long.

Most people aren't a fan of them cooked, but sashimi/sushi style they are pretty good, if you like tuna.

First, bleed and gut asap and put the fish on ice.

filet and trim all the dark meat (fat).

Slice thin, arrange on a plate with fresh squeezed lemon and lime juice. Let sit in freezer for about 15 minutes.

Eat like any other sashimi - w/ soy sauce, wasabi and pickled ginger.

You can also use the albie as a substitute for tuna in spicy tuna rolls.

Take some mayo and Sriracha hot sauce and mix with albie meat. Take mixture and put on seaweed and rice. This is my favorite - asian albie burgers. :hihi:

They have a slight "pine tree" evergreen flavor compared to say, BFT when consumed raw. Doesn't put me off, it's actually kind of interesting.

Anything that isn't toxic is edible. The question should be, is it palatable? I've never tried it, and now, probably never will.

I've had it smoked. It was pretty good.

I think edible is often used as antithesis to unpalatable. We (mushroom hunting crowd) often refer to edible, inedible, and poisonous. Plenty of things inedible but not poisonous, but palatable works too. I might try em.

True albacore, whether from the Pacific or Atlantic are delicious, false albacore, not so much.
