Plug Forum

I am looking at new things to do to the site and I want to ask you residentia of PLug Building Kingdom what suggestions you may have or things you want from the forum. This is not from a commercial or selling sense, purely from a forum sense. I have some time that I can spend and I want to tweak the site up a level so I'm curious what YOU would like to see ;)

Thankyouallforcomin'

How about increasing the amount of pics per post you can put up?I think its set to only two at the moment.

Slipknot 08-30-2007 11:02 AM

I'd like to see the forum more appealing to new plug builders. I'd like them not to be intimidated and feel welcome. Many first time plug makers found this site and did very well on their own doing searches and finding most of their answers on their own, but when they do have questions, it would be nice that they can feel comfortable asking. There are many how to's on here which is great. There also is a trend for some to go from novice to pro in a short time, I find that to be a bit :rotflmao: laughable as it is tough to produce a proven plug in a short amount of time, they should be tested, tweaked and catch fish for atleast a full season before being sold IMO. Nothing wrong with selling a plug or 6 here and there to offset some costs, ya can't get rich doing this but it's the serious builders that sell large amounts that should post their wares in the sponsors forums, that is what they are for. sorry I wandered off subject.

Lu has a good point

Wholeheartedly agree ;)

Less commercial builder spam, they have the sponsors section, stay there. No offense but I always thought that the plug building thread as a place to learn and share both knowledge and pics of what one has accomplished by visiting and joining in by just guys/girls doing it for the enjoyment not profit. There is nothing wrong with profiting but the sponsors area is made for that. No spam thank you mam.

I would also like to see an archive page that you could go to not only for the written (typed) word but members pics of pluggage specifically. That would be nice. You know all pics by Numbskull or tagger or Chumbucket in one place in a collection, no words just pics.

numbskull 08-30-2007 01:26 PM

I don't think we need to drive off the commerical guys. These guys add a lot of quality and experience to the site. Their input has helped me a lot and I enjoy seeing what they are working on. Guys like Scott, Mac, Bernzy, Don, and Ryan obviously love plugs. If you love plugs and are willing to help others, you should feel welcome here.

And in between these two is the balance that we want to find regarding "commercial" builders

Working on that ;) - but you guys would need to collect your photos in one place

Sportyguy - I don't know you and I'm not sure how on the level you are. What I do know is that there is a swarm of, well, uncertainty around your status here, and some of that is based on your, uhh, history on the "other" site. What I don't want to see is you using these boards to spam for personal gain. What I think some of the member builders that have been here for a while may feel is that you are trying to shortcut much of the builders learning curve. You haven't been building plugs that long, right?

Someone want to PM me the Sportsters link?

Thanks....

More plugs, less :smash: Those who don't get the message :lasso: :hang: Its a sure way to drive folks away from a cool site.

To some extent, I agree with Flaptail. Seeing some of the one off stuff that commercal guys do :claps: :btu: no problem with that. Everyone enjoys some plug porn and these guys can do some good stuff :uhuh: The "look what I just made and will be selling next week :spam: " should stay on the sponser forum.

Some good ideas from some of the gang that are being addressed, so I'll :hidin:

that wood be pretty to see, but on the flip side it would also give the up and coming comm. builder a fine place to see styles ,colors, types, sizes of plugs..OH! I like that one , maybe I'll add it to my new line.As well as getting pm's wanting to buy them ,,,

eastendlu 08-30-2007 07:13 PM

I'm a hobbiest when it comes to building plugs but have to say that there will always be those that take advantage of a good thing no matter what and we should not punish all those others willing to learn
because of a few unscrupules people.Keep the info comming cause i still need help.I'm just like Tagger i'll be ready to sell plugs in the year 2017 till then i need to pick all of your brains.:rotf2: Ohh and Tagger if ya ever need a partner:wavey: LMAF

I may BE Commercial Builder, But I have a Hobby also,When Not making Commercial Plugs I like to Tinker.

Tagger 08-31-2007 03:51 AM

How about ... "Plug of the Month".... Has to be a pic posted that month and Poll voting to pic a winner . At the end of the year there should be 12 entrys for" Plug of the Year ". Again Poll voting so public is involved and the winner wins a prize . Prize could be a plug builders dream box ,, contents would be like lips, eyes, weights, hooks, equal to a certain amount like $100.00 or they could just take the 100... Or all 12 entrys could be auctioned off and winner takes all .. If you don't want in but still want to post just state your plug is not an entry .. This would get the pics and forum rolling .. not to mention bragging rights ..

Raven 08-31-2007 05:05 AM

a sub section

where certain plugs are to be traded individually ....

that would generate some interest.:rtfm:

Sorry Karl Fahhrvral, I likey ;) :tm: - regardless of how OTW handles their POM, perhaps here, a poll where people could vote once per month would be a way to go and fair. I don't think it would be spam at all. We'd need some rules too. Must be member for 6 months (stop some drivebys)? Commercial or not can be discussed? Win once your out for entering for 6 months, Lots of good ideas could be done on this...

Of course, I would need to validate plug winners...

4.) Sorry Slip, I gotta disagree, but no bootlegging here either, the selling of 6, 12, 24, or a couple hundred a year, without paying excise tax, or any revenue, should not be encouraged. Does it go on? Of Course!.. But, let’s not encourage it, or let it happen in this forum. I am currently reading some interesting facts.. I will probably post a thread on this topic late fall early winter, when we need a Hot Stove Topic :hihi:

]

I didn't imply that bootleggers not pay taxes Karl and I don't think we'd encourage it. I don't know how you got that conclusion from what I said. That's fine, no selling, keep it as a hobby for making plugs for ourselves to fish. I pay all my taxes, I keep track of all my reciepts, if someone wants to sell a plug or 12, it's up to them to pay the excise tax etc. If there is selling going on, as far as I know it's just reselling as far as this site and the classifieds go.

I'll be looking to see what you will post.

Habs :) I know you like it as a hobby also and like to tinker, that's good. Us amatures appreciate the helpful tips and hints from the pros now and then, we don't want to exclude any of those type contributions.

ThrowingTimber 08-31-2007 10:00 AM

Habs, Lab1, afterhours, salty, bigfish, mac, bernzy, CS theres absolutely nothing wrong with these guys posts. They all contribute to the forum, and help out with the site overall.

My issue is with random guys who come on with veiled attempts to sell their stuff, under the 'guise of wanting to learn. Again the guys I mentioned and Im sure I missed some, nothing against commercial guys AT ALL.

Its cool I love to see the stuff you guys do like hab said he likes to tinker, hell man thats awesome after all how many black and purple needles can you paint before you say to yourself damn, I'd like to make something else. Again, that type of stuff I love! Its great and I'm greatful of you guys sharing that here, with us.

My issue is with the random guy, who does not contribute to anything. Not a sponsor. Never gives to the site/ forum and does nothing but take take take. Then becomes a "company" or business, I dont know maybe I'm painting a picture with too broad a brush, but I hope you guys get what Im trying to say.

Send me plugs, there are peanuts around and I dont have any small ones. That will be all.

See Ya!
I highly value your opinion - honest. And taking in some of your opinion, opinion of others here, and my thinking, mix it up, and we might find a way to make it work and be good for the builders board. Lot's of places that make things, from boats to software to tackle - have a "Blank" of the Month. If we could find a proper way to do it here, it's worth looking into. If it sucks, we won't do it...

We get more spam than is fun on the boards for certain. Some guys will always try to take advantage of others as well. Unfortunate but true. So we will try to be accurate when that happens.

What's the best way to figure it out?

ThrowingTimber 08-31-2007 11:19 AM

We're going to need an easy button :humpty:

That lure was never intended to be sold to anyone It was mae for a Swap. Why shouldn't I be allowed to be apart of this learning forum if I'm not selling plugs to it's members? Is it only for a Select few builders who decides who gets to post?

just use common sense
that's the simple answer

ThrowingTimber 08-31-2007 11:46 AM

Nothing like that CS didnt just list commerical guys I hope I didnt give you that impression. Sorry if I did. Just listing quality builders who all contribute to the site and help out etc, field questions. And occasionally just blow folks minds with the stuff theyre making.

Tagger 08-31-2007 02:30 PM

Start another post to air this stuff out ,, Spamming ,, being up front with every one ..lieing ,,, cheating ,, using your freinds ..doing your time... being contributing member ,, feeling cheap and dirty.. being a user .,,oneway street .. me me me .. Your hard work ,my icecream ..:thanks:

Now back to "Plug of the Month"---"Plug of the Year" it should be self supporting .. Maybe auction off monthly winners to reward yearly winner.. To enter monthly you must be willing to part with your plug .. On these polls you can only vote once .. Plug of the year may also be displayed on the front page with bio on builder .. Whole goal is to get people posting pics again .. Other issues may also be a factor in that ..

smitty919 08-31-2007 02:54 PM

forget this way to much drama in this place:mad:
