lookin' for someone to kayak with

Hey guys, just got a kayak as birthday/christmas. Nothing crazy but good enough for me. Anyway, i'm lookin' for someone that wouldn't mind me tagging along with in the upcoming season. I'm not a spot burner, nor a tattle. Just looking to go with someone who could show me the do's and dont's of kayaking. Thanks in advance.

Backbeach Jake 12-27-2008 10:01 PM

We should hook up this coming season. I only got to take mine out twice after I bought it.

Nebe 12-27-2008 10:18 PM

Your welcome to come over to Narragansett for a paddle.. or we could meet half way in newport....(my old yakking grounds) I didnt get out much this year, but am going to hopefully have some stability in my life soon and will be able to fish more.

good2hook 12-27-2008 11:06 PM

awesome, thanks guys.

spence 12-28-2008 09:03 AM

Give me a ping this spring. I'm just over in Tiverton and need someone to paddle with.

I'm a beginer yakker though as well, so if you go in don't expect any brave rescue :hs:

We could always get Nebe to come over and give us a tutorial, just need to leave a trail of tacos up Rte 114 and he'd catch the scent sooner or later :rotflmao:

I would be game to come over to tiverton..a change of pace would be nice.

good2hook 12-28-2008 09:42 PM

Hello g2h:
I do most of my kayak/fishing in the westport area and would be happy to meet up with you this coming spring.

Mid to late May is about when I would expect to be heading back out.

a pic from this past season

Got a Hobie Rev last year and used it only 2 or 3 times.
Would also like to hook up with others this year.
Can do West Bay or East Bay - RI, Westport. Live Barrington,RI

Sounds like there's enough of us to have some real fun :-)

Come on spring !

Striperman:
The kayak in the pic is one that I built from plans from Wooden Boat Magazine, the Tursiops designed by Mike Alford.

It is 15' long with 28" beam. (Cant find my pics of it right now)
Very stable even in choppy seas.

Chesapeak Light Craft does have some nice kayaks for fishing.

Building small boats is my winter time hobby.

Got plans to build a 14' outboard skiff next then maybe a 17' cc.

Had some money to buy the plywood and epoxy but I spent it on a new VS200!

good2hook 01-01-2009 02:48 PM

^VS200, I love mine. This is shaping up to be a great time on the water. Hopefully, the fish will cooperate:bounce:

I'll take a look, I have always wanted to build a small boat.
I have a 21' CC, but would love to build a yak, my wife wants a plastic one, I like the Ocean Kayaks SO for fishing.

Did you stitch and glue it?

Rmarsh 01-02-2009 07:59 AM

Striperman

That kayak is not stitch and glue.
It is built in the plywood on frame method.

Basically you cut pieces of ply the shape of the hull
attatch them to a keel, add longtitudal stringers at the chines and sheer then cover with marine grade plywood.

I have also built a stich and glue kayak from Pygmy Boats.
Much easier to build and lighter.

If I can locate the pictures of the build I will start a new thread.
Didn't mean to hijack this one.

G2H: yes I love my new vs 200. Whent out a few days ago to try a few cast and to get used to the bailess. Only took about half hour to get the hang of it. Even though the wind was @ 25 mph

Now bring on the stripers and blues!

Cappucci 01-04-2009 10:13 AM

I'm in to yak with any one in the SoCo area

I have a 12' Tarpon sit on top and use it more than my petro powered boats. Charlestown breachway is my go to paddleing grounds. I was out alone last summer and had a sun fish jump 2-3 feet clear out of the water about 50ft from me. I had no idea what it was until it swam right under me in about a ft of water. It had my heart pumping and I wish I had some there to witness it with me.

hyefisherman2 01-04-2009 10:27 AM

hey george, lurejunky and I yak the falmouth ponds and that area...if you'd ever wanna try it out. shoot one of us a pm.

but i dno if you'd wanna spend a weekend with a bunch of kids lol

good2hook 01-04-2009 12:40 PM

cappucci, i'd be down to fish the charlsetown breachway.

Backbeach Jake 01-04-2009 07:56 PM

Starting to sound like we need a Yak-fest....

good2hook 01-04-2009 08:18 PM

let's set it up.:D

Cappucci 01-05-2009 11:13 AM

I'm in any time the water warms up.

smac 01-06-2009 06:56 PM

If you make it over here to the vineyard , bring your kayak, I'll take you out too.

Scott

Rockport24 01-07-2009 05:46 PM

man, I would love to yak the vineyard, we should have the S-B yakfest on the vineyard!

good2hook 01-12-2009 07:39 PM

let's get a few local trips under our belt, before we make the trek to the vineyard. cuttyhunk wouldn't be bad either

leo33 01-12-2009 08:33 PM

should have the Hobie by spring and on the Westport river shortly after.
come on spring.

Dpollipo 01-13-2009 06:54 AM

Cappucci, I also have a 12' SOT - an orange Wilderness Tarpon - and do quite a bit of kayak fishing in the South County area, including the Charlestown Breachway. I live in Wakefield - we should plan on getting together next season.
