Boston Harbor Striped Bass Report

Well the fishing has been pretty decent, with a few nice keeper bass coming over the rail.

Saturday we had a full day charter, we got alot of mackerel pretty quick, there is alot of herring in the mix. But we are only using mackerel as alot of those herring are bluebacks and you are not aloud to use them.

We put in quite a bit of time in the morning trolling the macks before we got our first Striped Bass, but after we broke the ice the bite got alot better. We managed a half dozen bass, and also lost a few good fish. Some just around 30 inches or so and a couple of nice hefty bass one around 22 lbs and the other was 24 lbs so it was a good day even though the weather was a little wet in the morning, it turned out to be a beautiful day.

Sunday we had a smooth ride out with a beautiful sun rise. We got outside Boston harbor and started loading up on macks, we got about 2 doz in about a half hour and were ready to fish. We covered alot of ground with the same slower bite early, then it finally picked up and we managed 3 nice bass and also lost a few fish. One was around 30 inches and the other 2 were pretty good size around 18-20 lbs.

Bill & I really enjoy teaching people how to fish so they can go out and fish on their own boat or from shore and repeat the techniques we've showm them and then hear how well they did on their own, and both of these trips were great clients to have on board.

We have a ton of bait around, inside and outside the harbor and more fish are moving in every day so get ready as things should really bust wide open this week.

You can check out the most recent catches in our photo section. If you want to get out on the water and fight a few of these beautiful hard fighting fish, just email us or give us a call and we will get you scheduled.

Good report.

Curious, is there a special technique (rod/reel setup, slow troll, etc.) you employ when trolling live bait?
