MSNBC says Romney used a Klan slogan

Mitt Romney has a slogan to "keep America American". MSNBC claims that is a Klan slogan. Turns out that's factually incorrect, and beyond that, any rational person knows that whatever you think of Romney's politics, he's no racist.

Classy.

spence 12-19-2011 08:33 PM

So just how much MSNBC have you been watching?

That's your response? Based on your usual insanity every time I box you into a corner, I assumed you'd just deny that anyone at MSNBC said that...that's what you usually do, you deny what you posted 10 seconds ago.

Spence, what difference does it make how often I watch that train-wreck of a network? Please tell us all why that's relevent?

What's relevent is that when conservatives say similar things, like Don Imus, they get fired. You and your liberal ilk get a pass. WHat's relevent is that, instead of telling its audience about the pros and cons of Romney's ideas (and YOU WERE THE ONE who said liberals in the media like to challenge their audience, so the timing here is delicious), they try to dismiss him as a Klan sympathizer.

Meanwhile, the only Klan sympathizer in Washington DC was Senator Strom Thurmond (D-WV), who was an adnitted former member of the Klan. MSNBC never held him accountable for that. But Romney is the scary Klansman?? Not Strom Thurmond, who as president pro tempe of the Senate, was 5th in line for succession to the office of president??

Spence, you and your ilk have no shame, and your hypocrisy knows no bounds. You literally have no shame, and you are pathetic.

That's what matters. Not how often I watch those hate-mongers.

spence 12-19-2011 08:48 PM

This comment was made by a nobody, and they pulled out a heavy hitter (Chris Mathews) to voice the apology on prime time.

Please, don't get me started on FOX News. You don't want to go there.

Colmes? Juan Williams? Fair and balanced? :rotf2:

Seriously...

Spence, why doesn't the presence of Alan Colmes and Juan Williams and Bob Beckel and Kirsten Powers, make Foxnews more balanced? MSNBC has no regular conservative guests on primetime, none whatsoever. From 7 PM until 11 PM, all you see on MSNBC is the former editorial staff from The Daily Worker.

And while Chris Matthews is heavy, he's no heavy hitter. And if an apology wasn't enough for Don Imus, why is it enough when a liberal does it?

And in your usual cowardly fashion, you completely dodged my question of why it matters how often I watch that network.

Fixed.

Colmes isn't even on any more I don't think. Williams is a mercy hire, he's a lightweight for Brit Hume to beat up on Sundays. Kirsten Powers isn't really all that liberal, but she sure is hot.

MSNBC doesn't have the money to hire all the talent that FOX does so they're going after a niche market. Although you will see Republicans on all the time...and hell, their entire morning program is run by a conservative former House member.

Mathews is the elder member of their prime time lineup. But the two remarks are not at all equal...

Hey Spence, seriously, what liberals do you think Fox should hire to make Fox
Fair and Balanced?

I don't think who they hire is all that important. It's the nature of the discussion...Chris Wallace has a lot of Right wingers on the Sunday show and it's usually pretty good.

Jim can beotch all he wants about MSNBC but in reality their ratings are nothing compared to FOX News. Assume both sides are dishing out equal proportions of biased or misinformation and the problem on the FOX side is much larger.

"Colmes isn't even on any more I don't think. "

Wrong. He's on O'Reilly, the network's flagship show, all the time. So you just make stuff up to support your inane points?

"Williams is a mercy hire"

Really? Williams often hosts the O'Reilly factor when Bill is away. So you're saying Foxnews hands the reigns OF ITS FLAGSHIP SHOW, to a "mercy hire"?

How would you know he is a mercy hire, anyway?

"MSNBC doesn't have the money to hire all the talent that FOX does so they're going after a niche market"

And that niche market, apparently, is people who have (1) escaped from Bellvue, and (2) ask no questions, and (3) hate everyone who thinks differently than they do.

"Although you will see Republicans on all the time"

Not in prime-time, which is what most folks pay attention to.

How can you say you watched "every night", and then claim that Alan Colmes isn't on the network?

Either you are lying, or you cannot accept what's in front of your face unless it supports your agenda. There simply isn't a 3rd alternative, so you tell me which it is.

Spence, you're making this too easy for me.

My understanding was his relationship with FOX was for a radio show. I've not seen him on Bill O'Riley much, usually Bill has the babes on.

What's your point though? That a few token lefties makes the network have integrity?

RIROCKHOUND 12-20-2011 12:37 PM

Can I ask a question that is outside of the media discussion?

Was 'Keep America American' actually a prominent Klan slogan?

Even if it was, the reporter was wrong, as Mitt is clearly not channeling his inner Klansman, BUT if it was used in that conitation, maybe Mitt's slogan writers should do some more research, rather than have to backtrack and say he meant 'Keep America, America'

I already told you my point, but I'll repeat it...It's not possible for an honest, thinking person to (1) watch O'Reilly every night, and (2) claim that Alan Colmes is no longer on Foxnews. Colmes has a regular segment on the O'Reilly factor.

Again, you are either a liar, or someone who cannot process what is taking place in front of his face (that is, unles it supports your agenda).

"Token" lefties? I already told you, Juan Williams has hosted the O'Reilly factor on many occasions. That's the flagship show on the hottest cable news network. That means Juan Williams is no "token". But despite that irefutable fact, you dismiss him as a "token". That's why I say you're crazy. If an irrefutable fact contradicts your agenda, you have to find a way to dismiss it. Your brain cannot allow for the possibility that Foxnews is the only network that has rational people present both sides. There are smart liberals on O'Reilly every single night. That doesn't happen on MSNBC.

Yes, it was used by the Klan and other hate groups in the early part of the last century.

That's a good question. To be honest aside from a little MSNBC I don't really listen to all that much left leaning programming.

So, the MSNBSocialist reporter was wrong to call Romney a racist (agree, he was wrong), but not wrong that it was a KKK slogan?

changes the story abit, but still doesn't make Mitt a racist.

Yes, it's a completely different situation than the Imus remark Jim seems obsessed with.

Agree.
It makes Mitt's slogan writer look pretty stupid though. I figured googling a new slogan was like step 1 or 2 when vetting it....

He didn't call Romney a racist....he just brought up the story that the slogan was used by the KKK......which could be insinuating that he's a racist.....but they never actually called him that.

I mean its not a leap to think that when reading the story...

No, but it is irresponsible journalism and they should apologize...oops, looks like they already did.

Hell, even Al Sharpton wouldn't run with it :hihi:
