First Post, from Western Australia, My Fishing Spot.

G'day from WA. (Western Australia)
We don't get Strippers here but we do get a lot of other stuff.
Heres a couple of pictures of where we fish.

We do fish off the top of here!!

And John is really fishing!
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/6...recliff6at.jpg
He's tied to the SVU.
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/1225/101b1to.jpg
This is a Narrowbanded Spanish Mackeral caught from the rocks, its only about 6 metres up from here.
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/5...axfish16tw.jpg
This is a favourite spot for fish to get you to sit as they try and make there way out to sea.
http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/3240/nofear1sl.jpg
This is a Samson fish, so called because of its fighting prowess.

I'll post some more if the replies request such!

I've had some good times down there, can't wait to go back.

What brings you over to the striper side of things?

NaCl H2O 07-17-2006 09:14 AM

Great pics.... Absolutely post more

Sluggoslinger 07-17-2006 10:06 AM

I think I get it. Once you get the fish close, do you run that thing down the fishing line that is hooked on the spanish mack's head and pull it up with the heavy duty rope? Thats pretty cool...

hummy22 07-17-2006 11:01 AM

I suppose you guys don't believe in "catch and release"

rivsie11 07-17-2006 11:34 AM

Wow. And to think sometimes I feel like I am up high on the jetties at the ditch.

Great pictures.

That wasn't necessary.:rollem:

Hey Stax welcome aboard. If you keep posting pics like that mate all the fishermen in New England that have a passport will be booking vacations and coming to visit. Of course there are only three people on this list that have passports, so it might not be to many after all.:laugha:

Back Beach 07-17-2006 01:40 PM

Nice pictures, Mr. Marsupial. Feel free to contribute more any time. Quite a landscape you have there.

Stax 07-17-2006 09:40 PM

Wow, what a reply, 22 in a day, I'm impressed. Q &A's

Raven
what pound test do you use to haul fish up the cliff with...?
John and I are very sports minded and fish quite light tackle. I use a Graphcast 2, 9ft one piece 10-16lb class rod with ultra lightweight guides and a Van Staal VS 150 Gold with 16lb braid. (that’s when we fish off the low cliffs) I was using a Fin Nor 12 when I caught the Narrowbanded Spanish Mackerel.
Off the High Cliffs, 100 yards up, we use a 10 foot Stick! A very heavy duty 40lb class rod with an Alvey 650C5 deep spool reel with 40lb line. When you hook a fish from the high cliffs its near impossible to reel it in. You detach the reel from the rod and while one person holds the rod over the edge the other person walks off with the reel. After a 100 yard walk the fish appears at the cliff top. Its hard work holding the rod even with a 10lb'er on there. And not for the faint hearted. Mind you the person holding the rod is attached to the car and is wearing a harness.

How much is your petrol these days mate? $1.40 per litre or $6.40 per gallon.
JohnR
probably skish for Great Whites too...
Yes there are a few Great White Sharks around, but not many. The whole area is called “Shark Bay” and it’s not called that for no reason. There are thousands of Sharks in the area. The big ones here are the Bronze Whalers, we call them “Noah’s”
12-15 foot are common and believe me plenty of fish are lost to these buggers.
Chris L
I want to party with you guys.
Chris, come to us and you’re most welcome. I am always looking for a reason to get to Steep Point.
Piemma
Yes do look me up next time your in Perth. We are a friendly mob and always need another reason to get the beer on the table!
Sluggosligger
Isn't the striper equivalent fish the Barramundi in Australia?
Yes the Barramundi here would be very similar to your Stripper. Bigger maybe, 50lb’ers are caught regularly.
Mr Hunters
What brings you over to the striper side of things?
Fishing, Fishing and More fishing. Always like to read good stories.
Hummy22
I suppose you guys don't believe in "catch and release"
The last fish on my previous post was “released”. Carefully cliff gaffed and a couple of pictures taken then back off into the deep blue of the bay. So, yes, if we can’t eat it and its going to survive then its thrown back. If it’s unlikely to survive then it’s bait.

Just incase you can't read John's T-shirt, heres a close up.

This is Eddie, not the best photo, but a beauty of a 50lb Mulloway
http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/7227/eddie2gh9.jpg

This is a Shark Mackerel, you can see my Fin Nor and Rod behind me.
http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/6136/sharkmaceu7.jpg

And my favourite picture, this has apeared in numerous mags and on the Nat Geo website. A Humpback Whale and calf swimming past our feet. Truely Spectacular!

Hope you enjoy.

Thats Great, a picture I took doing the rounds, no problem!

I did have someone try and tell me it was not "my" picture, but I also have the before and after pictures. Nobody else has seen them!!
