BigBo 02-20-2011 06:18 PM

Nice! One of the baddest rides on the road.

Karl F 02-20-2011 06:20 PM

nice.. tourqe monster..
think it was rated about 500 on the tourqe scale.. about 350 bhp...stock...
the Stage 1 package and the GSX got bumped up from there..

Very Clean, nice project!... ENJOY!

DRUMCORPFAN 02-20-2011 08:03 PM

Thanks for the kind words, Had a chattering noise in the engine so winter was the time to tear into it. found the noise I heard, Camshaft A Ok so lifters push rods and rockers will do it. Original carb 750cfm sandblasted the intake and ready for Buick red paint, I like the stock look.

spence 02-20-2011 08:07 PM

What a tank. Not a lot of those around, or at least I don't think.

Great looking car. I'll bet she really humps.

I had a young guy say to me " Hey mister nice car whatever it is "
Many people never new Buick had a performance car, I have a magnaflow exhaust sitting in the garage that will go in after engine is done. Four wheel drum brakes is cool to, Actually stops just fine.
Black bucket seats w/consol horseshoe shifter still has factory sonomatic push button radio.
I have some more pics, I'll post some more..

Karl F 02-21-2011 12:40 PM

oh man.. the bane of American muscle.. 4 wheel drum brakes.. stop you fine.. the first time.. they do fade from a high speed slow down or stop..
that is too nice to be doing high speed drops with.. cool cruiser look to it...
any cruise nights near you? I am sure there must be.
in the summer on the cape there is the wednesday night drive in at the Harwich A&W.. and not sure what the other night is, but at the Tech school near the canal there is a cruise night that ends up in the lot there... always cool to go look see..
that was about the last year of the true Buick, (as well as other manufacturers) muscle cars.. emissions, insurance, and gas shortages put the knife to them.

local guy here had a Stage 1 brand new back then that was real sick... we usta call it the "Luxury Screamer"....

justplugit 02-21-2011 01:08 PM

Beautiful. :btu:

Betcha can't wait to get the Magnaflows on. :hihi:
You going with the glasspacks?

DRUMCORPFAN 02-21-2011 05:13 PM

Also what a lot of people don't realize is that the Stage 1 version was one of the fastest production cars ever made.

striperjerk1 02-21-2011 06:03 PM

DRUMCORPFAN 02-21-2011 07:32 PM

Thanks Dennis, This was during the summer months should look cleaner after the winter. In the spring I take it to car shows on a nice day and just enjoy driving it, Repainting the block and intake Buick red
and just replacing rubber hoses as I go. Internal I found a few bad pushrods and worn rockers so I figured while I'm in there replace lifters, Cam looks really good so I'm stopping there.

Would have loved to work on it with you. You don't often get a chance these days to tear one of those pre-computer machines down.

Pretty nice car !
Remember a time when cars used to interest me, but after 30 + years of working on them, I look at them as just that, WORK !
I must be getting old !

Ya know Ronnie it relaxes me, I can see your point I drive a 2005 F150 and I would never work on the engine. But 1970 now were talking, No crap in the way the 1971 or 72 model added an air pump and so it went. I use no air tools I call it anger management..:smash:

I used to do 1 or 2 major restorations a year for customers.
Been a while since I wanted to do one.
It's definitely a labor of love because you can never get the $ out of the job that it's worth.

DRUMCORPFAN 02-21-2011 09:09 PM

I do love it, When its your own ride you care more about the little stuff. Every clip bracket and assorted hadware has been cleaned sanded and repainted, I had a guy say to me why change all the pushrods only a few are bad. Well cause its mine and I dont want to do it again..

Block and intake painted, Buick Red..

Mr. Sandman 02-27-2011 11:54 AM

Nice...They are a lot of work. I did the same for a 73 camaro but that was when I was young and like you enjoyed working on cars as a project. Once you past a certain age you seem to loose interest in cars...at least I did. Now I want to get in and turn the key and not be concerned with them. You have to love it to be into like that.

All the best with it, she is a beauty. Most of those babys rusted out bad.

Maybe someday I'll see you on that HD theater muscle car auction show.:)

Karl F 02-27-2011 12:55 PM

I dunno Sandman.. I got old, never have lost the desire for the cars..just the funds, time, and space.

Drumcorpfan.. :claps: :btu:
