So the wife wants to get a boat and she's all about it, even took me to bass pro to look at new boats.

She loves going out in the 14' John boat and craw dad but doesn't like the lack of space and how unstable they are.

The issue is she wants a one and done boat.

Her requirements: can be used in the bay, used in freshwater, bigger bodies of water like worden/wallum/Burlingame,bay and back bay, fishing, and wants to be able to take it to block!

And has to have an awning or some shaded covering.

Was trying to tell her those are all different things!

I have used and towed a 18' tracker with a 25hp and 18' north coast cc and feel pretty comfortable using something along those lines.

I'm leaning more towards a bay boat, that can safely make a run to block weather permitting

The fresh water aspect isn't a factor really

So I guess my main question is anyone have a suggestion for size and brand?

Things to stay away from?


Probably going to go new or used something with warranty either at the end of this season (left over boat) or early next season.

I know it's a lot of different types of water/usage to cover but trying to find a good compromise on all fronts.

You may have answered your own question, Northcoast. I run a 19cc in the bay and ocean front and it is perfect. Paired with an ETEC 130 it is fast and extremely economical and does't require costly winterizing like the 4S.
You can address the shade thing in various ways i.e.. t-top, bow dodger or bimini.
Made right in Bristol so another plus for any needs that may arise. Going into my 4th season and she has been flawless.

Yeah I went to high school with the owners son, and lived in Bristol my whole life until the recent move.

That's what I'm leaning towards, like the local idea and have heard all great things.

ZacS has a Northcoast 19. It's a great boat and if I was to pull the trigger on a CC, that's the one. Forget about wardens pond though.

that northcoast 19 is a nice 19'cc that will do what you want. Im not sure about fishing local lakes and ponds though. The bay boat sounds like a good compromise until your coming back from Block and the wind shifts and kicks up 10 MPH.

Done it in my 21" Sea Hunt CC.

Jay's right. It can be a really long ride with a 4' ground swell and a 10 to 15Knt wind on top.
I was out in front of Beavertail yesterday with a 3 to 4' swell and light wind it wasn't uncomfortable but it made fishing tough

true story. i take it everywhere. Was even thinking about Wordens yesterday but decided no. Only draws 18" though...

that boat has fished all rhody waters, from pawtucket to the sw ledge...

I originally had a 150 ficht evinrude, which served me well despite the reputation, now I have a 115 yamaha 4stroke, which is still plenty of power.

GPS #^&#^&#^&#^& the bed yesterday after probably 15 yrs of taking a beating in the open. (had on my previous boat as well)

I've never seen an NC 19 with a ttop. If you can at all convince your wife not to have one, they severely restrict fishing in my experience. especially on a boat 23' and less.

Yami 115 4stroke is great. I have over 1200 hours on it and its running, according to dealers electronic diagnostics, right on factory specs. I do change the water pump, impeller, thermostat and NGK Iridium plugs every year. I also run Fuel Ox whenever I add gas. I run fresh water thru the engine after every trip. Change oil, fuel filter, oil filter and lower unit grease every 100 hrs. Also change all the zincs, internal and external, every year.
My dealers says that if I keep up this maint schedule, I should get 2500 hours before a rebuild.

I'm very impressed with your maintenance ethics. Seems it is paying off for you. Interesting how you change the zines internal and external every year..hmmmm

My Merc mechanic did not mention this to me....I will ask at years end maintenance appt.

Damn Paul, I thought i took care of my boat!

IMO I would have already checked out the classfieds /Linesiders 21' Alcar .... 29 year old motor .I would dump that & upgrade .i had one of them Alcars .......Loved it ........ fuc ked the ponds ><> problem woulds be to really test it & then pickup a trailer .But the boat sounds sweet ><><

It's interesting in that my Yami dealer never told me either about the internal zinc. I got tipped off to them from a mobile marine mechanic that did some work for me during the winter.
