Century S2

I picked up an S2 blank this weekend. Curious if others here have built a rod on this blank. I'm pairing it with a vs250. I'm planning on going with TKWAG guides 30l 20 12 and 8(6). this is just in the planning stages so any feedback would be appreciated.

I have the rod and have fished it hard for the last two seasons.

I have mine built with low riders, I did a lot of testing and liked the LC guides over the k frames.

I can give you my guide layout, as a starting point, I used a ZeeBaas 27 so should be a pretty close match.

The rod is really great, will throw anything from 1oz to 5oz rigged eels, have taken fish to low 40lb class on it.

Think you'll be happy with it.

I have mine wrapped with three K's followed by six or seven BMNAG runners to the tip. It fishes extremely well with both my VS250 and VS150.

Sounds like a reasonable layout to me.

If you are throwing braid you could also test cast LCAG 20-12M-10 then KW runners.

Put the LCAG 20 reversed at about 38-40" out and tweek it from there.
The casting distance will likely be similar, the LC layout probably a bit tip lighter.

I have not tried this with a 250 size spool but it works very nicely with a ZB25 on an 11 ft rod and for the added price of three LC guides you might find it worth testing.

If you are really adventurous (and I have not yet tried this), there is another option you can try, again for the price of 3 guides. Get a 25 Kl-H, 12KL-H, 8KL-M, then 8 runners (maybe KT's and you'll need a few extra). Use the software at anglersresource to help place the collector then go from there. You will be dealing with single foot guides, but when you see how light a rod you get it will be hard to resist. There is a wrapping technique that works well (I think it is called a Forlan wrap) where you can lock the single foots in.

Forhan locking wrap

I have been contemplating the KL-h but have always heard that single foot guides would not hold up

Personally I wouldn't go single foot on that rod but its an option. I also wouldn't spend the extra money on the Ti guides either :) but I know you have in the past. Its a great rod.

Thanks for the information guys. I'm going to pick up a both the K and Lc reduction guides and the k runners. In SS to start. If I want the rod lighter in hand I'll order the Ti version once I am happy with the layout. It would probably be helpful for me to have some kind of stock of guides in my shop for testing.

I built that rod last spring. I had started with the low riders but ended up playing with some different options before finally settling on an entire low rider configuration. The LC guides for runners made a noticeable difference on the rigidity of the tip section. Throwing the 2-3.5 oz weight range was noticeably more crisp and responsive with that guide layout (why I went with it)
