Lead for jigs

Where do you get lead for making jigs. I was thinking of purchasing lead flashing from the lumber yard. I also thought of going to a tire place and getting some wheel weights and using them. When I got the lead melter from shark river in Jersey the information in the box recommended agains using tire lead. Help

I have used lead from lead lined drywall for years.

I just got 400 lbs from a tire shop.. It was a pain to talk them into giving it to me but they did.. try a few shops.. they always have a ton of lead wheel weight hanging around.... why pay for lead? thats why I started melting in the first place to save money.. good luck.

Lead for jigs

Although the companies that make jig molds advise not to use tire weights for making jigs, I've been doing it for a few years now without any problems. Just make sure to pre-heat your molds so that the lead fills the cavities completely.
Check local tire shops. They will usually give you old weights for free, especially if you normally buy your tires from them.
Good luck.
