Well I am actually going to post a picture of a plug:rotflmao:. After all the info I put up I figured I would post a picture of a finished product before they fly the coop.

Perfect as always...swim'm yet?

ProfessorM 03-07-2009 09:35 AM

I swam an eelskin one a few times last summer in the canal at nite on my way home from work. Very nice action for the skin. I will be doing the same this year. The others will have to be swum by the next foster parent and I will get a report.

scottw 03-07-2009 09:51 AM

sweet! I get jealous when I see really nice mackeral stripes like those!

blondterror 03-07-2009 09:58 AM

Great looking Conrads. can you tell me more about that lip and are you a free hand mackeral kind of guy or a stencil guy.. they look wonderful-

chris

ProfessorM 03-07-2009 11:22 AM

lips are key to the plug I think. I make em. Do a search and you will find all the dim. If you can't tell me and I will post it again. I am a paint sprayer , not an artist. I use a stencil, which took longer to make than the plug. That is where having a dup. is important as the stencil fits tight so all future plugs must be withing .010 or it will not fit. I got a small heavy pencil stencil I just finished and am looking forward to giving it a go. I will post when i am done. Thanks

numbskull 03-07-2009 11:27 AM

fishbones 03-07-2009 03:25 PM

Nice work on those. :kewl: What's the reasoning behind painting the lip on the black eelskin one?

nightfighter 03-07-2009 05:34 PM

Me likey, Paul. Skin plugs and macks!

striperman36 03-07-2009 05:42 PM

And you claim to have no time? Verry niicce.

ProfessorM 03-07-2009 06:28 PM

The lips are heated in an oven, 1500, let cool. They stay blue , black. Never had luck with paint sticking to stainless. Figured that would be good for nite time plugs. Basicly me experimenting.

Slipknot 03-07-2009 07:21 PM

so I brought them out for a swim today. Should have gone where I could access deeper water to give them a true test but time was short. They all swam great but I thought the swimming action was the most perfect with 3 trebles which makes sense since I believe that is how the beachmasters and pichney's were rigged. I used cut 3/o's with a 3/o treble on the back attached with a size 5 wolverine ring. I'm sure some will disagree but that's my .02 on what was best. I also really liked the tightened sexy wiggle the blurple one had with the heavily dressed bucktail treble. I think I'm going to leave it on that swimmer for a little variation.

Thanks again Paul.

I'll hit you in the knee with my shillelagh you lanky ()^%$$^$.

I won't be fishin those in the clear water.

I think where those Jr's shine is with an eelskin on them. The canal is perfect for those with or without skins.

ThrowingTimber 03-08-2009 07:00 PM

beautiful work paul super clean!

I'm betting on that too ..I made some copys double belly hook and some modified(skin plug) with the single belly hook .. Hoping skin tail makes up the differance , This is my first year with the Jr. .. The Sr. swam the nuts .. Nice work Paul . How'd you do hook layout .. 2 or 1 belly ?

NIB 03-09-2009 06:56 AM

You owe me a plug..:smash:

Rockfish9 03-09-2009 11:39 AM

Nice selection Paul.... what wood? (if you said what kind I missed it)

I made mine from birch, IMHO they swim better than maple ones I have made in the past.. I also agree that three trebles give the best action on these...

ProfessorM 03-09-2009 01:52 PM

AYC Joe. With a 3/8 dia. belly weight the extends past thru wire a bit so it has to be drilled thru after cemented in. Pretty much exactly like the originals, Pinchneys that is.
