Animal Planet is sinking fast

I should have had second thoughts about their latest :discovery" show about the megladon.
Sure, they were successful with their shows about the giant squid, but they dropped the ball after airing that "mermaid body discory" disaster.

They had a 2 hour show that did nothing but remind me why I hate "made-for-tv" mockumentaries. If there were any doubts about the existence of these giant sharks, this show set that research back a decade (if not more)!

Imagine that at the culmination of the 2 hour BS-fest, when the "creature" FINALLY makes its appearance, that the ship and crew ALL experience system failures AT THE SAME TIME?

Either Animal Planet hired the stupidest people on the planet to film this mockup, or they hired some schlep from the SYFY channel to head their "special effects" dept.

All I could think of after this abomination was done was "This is how TLC started their suicidal drop to the "honey boo-boo" level of intelligence.

It was a direct slap in the face to the Discovery Channel and their continued success during "Shark Week".

totally agree, it was ridiculous, there is so much cool science going on out there and they choose to do make this their marquee show?

I gotta say though that the latest Cape "Jaws comes home" show was pretty awesome. I also liked "Sharkpocalypse" when they put a camera on the shark's dorsal fin, pretty cool stuff.

Huh? The Megladon mockumentary was aired on the Discovery Channel not Animal Planet.

The Dad Fisherman 08-15-2013 09:46 AM

I guess they "Jumped the Shark"

It was originally aired of Discovery Channel and rebroadcast on Animal Planet. Still doesn't make up for a crappy show.

Raven: I saw that last night. Pretty cool how they could test the intelligence of these creatures and find that they can be on the same scale as birds and small mammals.

I got a kick out of the last one, the one that walked instead of swam.
Pretty cool for a 1/2 finger sized animal.

Has anyone seen Shelby...The Swamp Man on The History Channel? I usually don't watch this genre of shows...but I happened to catch it a few nights ago. What a freakin' scream this guy is...not to mention the poor camera people that have to follow him around. The guy is a freakin' lunatic... lives in the Louisiana Bayou...I can hardly understand a word he says but he's funny as hell. He drives around in one of those Jet Boats and smashes into sh&t. OMG...He even carries around a 44 Magnum and shoots sh&t up constantly...and I don't think alcohol is even involved...what a Hoot! I think it might be a spin-off of a show called the Axe Men?...which I have never seen.

I'll have to check that out, whatever you do don't watch "Tickle" which is a spinoff of "Moonshiners"

They narrate the show kind of like the dukes of hazzard and it's just ridiculous... and I like these stupid shows so that's saying something!

Scuttlebutt 08-15-2013 07:09 PM

I love Tickle!

A couple of other shows I like is Gold Rush...and another show (that I can't remember the name of) is the two guys that go from bar to bar getting bleep faced. Sort of a QVC for drunks. Right up my alley! Hahaha!
