Its About the Plug 2014

Big, small, who cares? Lets see what your (or someone else's) custom plug can do. We all learn from it.
To start here is a 26" bass (it looked huge compared to what I have been catching so I measured it :rollem:) that ate a 4" Musso small darter clone. The plug has done well for me, which is a pleasant surprise since I was not impressed when I swam the prototypes. Interestingly, the plug swims better with larger hooks than I tested with. The forward hook position seems to balance things out well. |
George, your darters catch great. The medium Musso did me very well. Love to have a small one. LOL
|
I love darters nice work.

Caught this one few weeks back on a Billy DeLizio "redfin".
I had been throwing plastic with no takes and switched to Billy's plug which offered a larger profile, tuned the line tie down to keep it on top w/ wake. The fish cooperated. Thanks Billy for saving what was turning into a frustrating night. 36.5" released |
Thats great Matt. Thats a gary 2 version. great tail waggle. no tail weighting.
|
Nice plug, nice fish.

Got this high teen fish on a skinny pencil made by some irish guy who used to live in Franklin. Good hit too.
|
Good idea filming it so you can remember how to do it as you get older.

Throwing a Blonde Terror yellow pencil this morning, the bass went 15 lbs on the boga, it hit as i was just lazily finishing a retrieve in about 4 inches of water, :rotf2:certainly wasn't expecting that.
The blue went 6 lbs, caught another blue that went 6 lbs on a 24/7 blue mackerel pencil which snapped a one treble off the front hook, has anyone ever had that happen to a vmc before??, all fish released to swim again and they did. Not a bad first morning out, considering there were quite a few people there this morning. |

Natural color hardwood. First catch this year on own wood. It's a jr. variant, weighs about 1.85 oz.

When your fishing partner ask "Do you even know how to catch fish on plugs anymore?" (I fish a lot of eels/he fishes a lot of plugs) I had to put on a needle, land a fish and make him take a photo of it.
Sin: fishing eels Ultimate Sin: fishing numbskull's plugs with a eel jug over my shoulder. (Sorry) :devil2: |
REPENT Sinner!
:btu: at least you recognized your mistake stick to plugs to catch fish, it makes the few big ones well worth it now where did I put my eel jug? was that on a Numbskull needle? Nice Frank |
I can't leave the eels alone. :smash:
It's a hab's clone from numbskull. Birch or Maple I'm guessing. Fish hit it as it tagged bottom and I'm guessing that is why it was not he siwash. |
Nice one Frank

Not often that I fish in the day. Nice to see the colors instead of black and gray.
Lure is a chunky needle made over the winter. |

this is one of christians aka chrisjoes metal lips he gave me. its a atm jr hybrid of sorts, cast decent considering too.
i threw it the second night at cutty, slow waking it on the top and the fish were just blowing it out of the water left and right, was a blast to watch, must have happened 10-12 casts in a row, then finally hooked up with 2 decent fish on it. have the fish pics on the camera, ill upload later on took a nice chunk on my buddies white darter in the pitch black too |
