Ice out brown trout patters.

Any tips on ice out browns? I figured out their patterns in the heat of the summer and the late fall but not sure where to look come ice out. I want to be the first on the lake to catch one this year. I am thinkin the same as the late fall, close to shore maybe near the creeks that are flowing into the lake but its just a guess.

ARE you Kidding?

BROWNS CANNOT resist worms.... live worms

dunk them in trout liquid first... especially at sunset

wordens brown rooster tail (get all sizes) when thrown resembles a trout pellet being thrown
and the gold spinner blade resembles a turning around trouts "flash"

the combination of the two is deadly .. but sometimes they get finicky
and they want it right at the surface while reeling with the rod tip way up high to create a V wake in the water...

if i'm in the boat and i am site fishing schools of surfacing trout i sometimes use the smallest cast master with the orange stripe....

somethin about orange they like because i caught one on an orange
crayfish deep diver one day that wouldn't fit in his mouth to easy.

my go to assortment is:

I'll second the orange....seem to be the best color for me as well....that and Gold

in that picture you notice the little spinner with the orange
body.... the blade on it has a little peel and stick foil silver
added to the backside... just to add some extra flash to it.

sometimes that's what makes the difference altogether to making
that lure work like a charm or NOT... and i have them on board
to do color adjustments on the go...or fly :)

the favorite question each morning with the other trout fisherman
was always "what's the color of the day?" actually a reference to
which power bait color was working... as it changes often, but i would
take note of it and choose my spinner bait accordingly.

but as i leave the boat ramp i always have the mini silver rapala on
first and many times didn't get even 75 feet before hooking up
and they (the Bait hogs on shore) would be saying 3 minutes and that guy
already has a fish and i've been here for a couple of hours. LOL

So i picked up a a bunch of spinners and gave it a few hours today for nothing. I even tired power bait and worms too, nothing. Then o bump into my neighbor who shows me a pic of an osprey leaving the lake with a good sized trout.

and cruise around like a falconer ...heh heh heh
