Plugfest 2017 on Feb. 11th

OK, time to get the ball rolling here. How many of you want to have another plugfest? I was thinking we can have it at the sportsmans club I belong to if that sounds good, the rental is only $100 to keep the cost down so that is good. I think we should look into dates available in February so I will ask to see what Saturday is open, it is Monument Beach Sportsmans club just over the Bourne Bridge on Rt. 28 north by the landfill.
Do we even have enough interest in another event given the lack of attendance last time?

So speak up maybe we can get 40-50 people to get together here.

thanks

Yup I am always up for a jaw session

Good to see this post Bruce.

I'm in, and willing to help promote it too via the CSA's media. The plugfest topic came up at our board meeting last night.

So if we simply - just plugs and swaps and keeping it low key?

No Raffles? No sales? Just more fun / grass roots?

Just throwing this out there

Thanks Bruce!

Slipknot 11-21-2016 08:51 AM

John,

I am not sure
any input is welcome by anyone.
I just figured if we get enough interest, we should rent a hall, if not, then we could have it here at my shop again if we get less than 20 people.
I feel bad the hall rental was not even covered last time we did this, it did not seem fair to you.
we can have a raffle, swaps and allow selling if that is what people want, it just changes things when it becomes commercial or flea market like.

The place is available on Feb 18th or 25th and possibly the 11th also.
Any preferences?

ed morini 11-21-2016 12:58 PM

plug fest

put me in for $20.00 towards expense of hall

Ed

If I'm around I'll come either way, but I wonder if smaller might be better.

It strikes me that there are not enough amateur guys building anymore to support the old model.....and I doubt that we could get enough commercial guys to show up and sell plugs like at the NJ shows.

Perhaps a condition of attending is that you have to bring something to show (or perhaps to feed) others. Mostly this would be our winter's output, but it could also include older stuff we've made, vintage tackle, rods, bags, pictures, tools, jigs, etc. Everybody there has or shares a table and needs to put something on it. Keep it only a few hours long. Include food, beer, and a small venue to keep people together. No contests, no raffles, no rules about selling or not selling (that's your business).

As for fundraising, everyone attending shares the cost of the venue and everyone donates a plug to the site, the collection of which can then be raffled off on line as a single item (rather than auctioned piece meal) at a latter date.

So we should ask for a bartender?

rules, I don't like rules either

I agree George, everyone pitch in. sounds good

If we can get people like Bigfish and Rockfish9(17 or is it 19?) to come too again, that would be nice.

let's make it a good time

as far as how long, people can come and leave on their own time but we usually have it begin about 8:30 or so and end early afternoon. A few stay to help cleanup so we can get the cleaning deposit back.

Food is always more than welcome, there is a kitchen to warm stuff up in

BigFish 11-22-2016 06:34 AM

Bruce at this time I have no plans for February and would love to come again.....its been awhile for me and it was always a great time! Everyone bringing food was always fun.....make it a potluck again.

pbadad 11-22-2016 07:09 AM

I'm fine whatever you choose Bruce. I hope to see a few more newer CSA builders there. I will promote the event on this end. Do I prefer the way we did it in the past, yes but change is not a bad thing. If small is the way, I feel it give more of a chance for all to listen, learn and demo. I remember my first in Carver and being a rookie watching Larry give a demo on painting and a offset turning demo. Inspiring to say the least. Realizing doing actuals demos are difficult to do, but nonetheless it's a thought.
I would also agree that an admission to offset any expenses fine and pot luck is good. We had that also years back.

Slipknot 11-22-2016 10:00 AM

I would like to have demos also
we will see what can happen

ProfessorM 11-22-2016 10:15 AM

It is feasible for pot luck now that the attendance is way down. Some years there were so many people you couldn't feed them all and many went hungry. Good idea. Food makes it more fun.
