A question about Codecs

I download a lot of avi, wmv, and other movie clips. Not porn, just weird stuff. I used Quicktime, Real Player and Windows Media Player. The problem is, sometimes I get errors saying I don't have the right Codec. I don't know what a codec is, nor do I care. I just want the movies to play.

So where can I get all these codec files? Anyone know?

Thanks

A codec is the compression algorithm/software plug-in for your DV player. Some codecs can be downloaded off the web and extracted to your player. Some are proprietary and cannot be downloaded. MS, Apple, & Real Player are the first stops, otherwise mark down then name it needs and do a web search... I don't know any specific sites that have all or even some of the codecs...
