Upgrades
Looking to outfit the boat with some new spinning gear 4 for albies small bass blues sea bass and another 4 for stripers and blues and a few new live bait conventional rods and reels
Want to start my occasional charter business and provide people quailty matching gear with out breaking the bank , that anyone can use and if it gets broke I won't be to upset Trying to stay away from the ugly stick tiger stuff haven't had good luck them |
When I did that I stayed away from spinning gear. Most people are right handed and some are spastic when using their left hand for anything. I went with Penn level winds, 9Ms to be precise. You can pick them up on e-bay for cheap and they can be rebuilt for a song. Works out well for me.

I have used the Penn Battle avg 2x per week for three years during summer, bass to 20lbs, lots of surface stuff, and with light line throws albie snacks well. They are cheap if one goes overboard (100-110), but had to finally get my primary one rebuilt, and for $40 Penn went through it completely, and returned it with the old parts. Like new again.
Next step up I would use the Clash....lovely smooth drag for allies/blues and putting the wood to Blackfish shallow on jigs. John Skinner put me onto that. Good luck! Lots of options out there. Guy I charter with 2-3 times a year uses higher end Shimano stuff, but he has a better grade of fishermen on his boat, most are very experienced. |
