Colin Powell endorses Barak Obama

Pretty heavy if you ask me. Powell as usual was very compelling and well spoken. This is interesting...

You're right, he's just a malcontent. I'm sure the military is full of them.

I can see how many would simply call this the 'black' man supporting another black man, but if you look at how Powell was given the task of selling the Iraq war to the UN and how he dropped out of the public eye afterwards, its pretty obvious that he knew he was spreading lies to sell a bogus war.

If you look at his public remarks, he's been pretty consistent in asserting that he believed the information that was given to him. He has also alluded to the notion that he was misled by not being given access to contradictory intel on Saddam's WMD.

I do think he's quite embarrased/angered by the entire affair.

Maybe a cabinet play?

Raven 10-19-2008 10:52 AM

there's absolutely no doubt

that Sadammy Salami had wmd's because he used them on the kurd's and totally wiped them out....

now whether he had "more" was debatable...
and IF he did, he exported them to Syria
more than likely...
(lots of stuff still buried in all that sand)

having to Prove....
the case against Iraq to go to war again was "bull crap"
because they were already shooting at our planes
which was against the cease fire agreement...
but.... the thing is... Bush/cheney
made Colin the fall guy and that's why he left politics... imho anyway (friggan back stabbers)
-----
President Obama .... :spin: here we go....

UserRemoved1 10-19-2008 10:56 AM

He'd get my vote. I'd bet the majority of America feels the same way.

Colin Powell has always had my greatest respect and would make a great President.

Hopefully he would have a Cabinet position in an Obama Administration.

buckman 10-19-2008 02:13 PM

If he could be duped by a dummy like Bush, I question how smart he really is.

In reality I think he's incredibly smart and knowledgeable and not only he but the people providing the inteligence believed Sadam had more. If he didn't believe it, then he was a major player in what the left is so upset about and shouldn't get a free pass by them

nightfighter 10-19-2008 02:26 PM

I think he acted as a soldier who was given an order by the Commander in Chief. Despite what he believed to be true.

Joe 10-19-2008 02:27 PM

His wife did not want him to run because she believes a black man would be killed.

He's admitted as much.

The description I liked was Paul Pilar, former CIA head for Europe who said that after a while everybody just bent in the wind.

Bush wanted the war and nobody was going to let a lack of evidence stand in his way.

Listening to it now on itunes.
Listend to D and C on EEI rip Powell this morning. There could not be two more idiotic rambling morons on the rdaio unless Savage and Rush were to team up.
EEI has lost me as a listener, they are a sport station, red sox lost, pats are playing, and they were ranting about Powell being 'ungrateful' to the Repubes,

Back on topic. What a great speaker (Powell), who gave very thoughtful reasons for why he is voting for Obama.

Nebe 10-20-2008 09:07 AM

I have this image of my head of Powell wearing a black cape and he is throwing emperor mccain intof some weird pit in the middle of a space ship.

Then powell whispers to obama.......barak i am your father.....:rotf2:

who says life doesnt imitate art? :hihi:

Cabinet level discussions in most administrations are typically open and frank, with back-and-forth, compromise, and the weighing of all opinions. Its not like a the military where you report, get your orders, and march out. The president is the commander and chief, but you've not been appointed to the cabinet to salute and march out. Good leaders decide by getting smart people in a room and listening.

Powell was a career Military Man....I'm sure he had issues with certain individuals but when the Prez tells you this is how its going to be.....Then thats the way its going to be. Notice he finally had enough

And there in is the key phrase....GOOD leaders.....need we rehash that old chestnut.

Backbeach Jake 10-21-2008 04:39 PM

In my heart of hearts I believe that Powell was given the job to be played. You can't believe how much that thought sickens me. One of the most honorable men to ever serve, played for a patsy. And played to start a war that didn't need to be. Any country in the Middle East would have been a magnet for Al Quida zealots and we were already in their nest, Afghanistan. And they could all be dead now.
I also believe that Sadaam had complied with the WOMD directive, Bush and Cheney chose to ignore that evidence and manufacture some evidence to the contrary of their own. They sold it to Powell and Powell sold it to us. Truth, Honor and the American Way, and the Constitution and the Bill of Rights took a fatal shot to the head then and there.
