Rant on spoiled kids

I was helping my son and daughter in law move into their newly rented home, mostly to handle some of the heavy and bulky furniture. A small contingent of her relatives had also come from out of town to help, they had brought along a six year old boy and put on a movie to keep him occupied.

Earlier in the week I had installed the new 60" tv my son had bought, and after the work was done I thought I'd sit down with a beer and watch football. I picked up the remote and told the boy it was time to watch some football he gave me a frown and ran to tell his mama. I could not have cared less...in my family the adults are in charge.

Later I offered to pick up a few pizzas for everyone. My wife told me the boys mother had asked if I could pick up some mcdonalds fries as that is all he likes...I told her the pizza joint had fries and I would get some. When I got back, I said to the boy "Hey buddy I got you some fries, you want some?" He gives me a cold stare... "you want some ketchup? we got ketchup" no answer. So I say "thats okay if you dont want them, I like fries I'll eat them". Runs off again to tell mama.

I heard that he isnt toilet trained yet and prefers to have his mother change his diaper. I met the dad, poor guy is completely dominated by his wife, and child.

My wife and I both decided early on when we had children that we will be in charge, and that children wont get their way by acting out, we made a point of telling them "no" and sticking to it as a team.

Yup, agree a 6 YO who is still in diapers has some serious issues.

Its a matriarchal family .....from the grandmother on down....they all adore the little guy.
Most of the husbands have moved on....the dad just isnt up to the job....nice humble guy...likeable....but totally controlled.
Lucky for me that my wife is a loving but stern mother with my two grown sons, and has never disrespected me in front of them.....and likewise

By six years old some kids realize they are in control.
I remember asking my wife when our babies were in their cribs crying if we should check on them and she would say "no...they've been fed and diapered and now they need to sleep. Its not about what they want, it's about what they need.
We used the candy in the checkout lane to specifically teach them "no".
Mean parents we were.

Sounds pretty normal,my Mom loves my kids too. I sympathize with parents who struggle making decisions that best benefits their children. Tough lessons ring loudest for most but other cases have more depth. A child who wears diapers at 6 just may be on the spectrum to some degree. Blame the parents, not the child.

I always joke around and say up until the age of one, the kid rules the roost, they’ll let you know when you can eat, sleep, and crap. After that it’s “Game On” I’m in charge now :hihi:

My dad made sure that my four brothers and three sisters and I behaved properly. It was total silence at the dinner table if dad said so. Seemed like everyday my brother would antagonize me to the point of me jumping on him with my fists flying. Results were always the same. Dad would get us both together...remove his belt...and let it fly. Looking back I know he had to...and I appreciate him for that.
There were a few times when my older brothers as teenagers (well built 200 lbers) disrespected him and paid the price.....so I never tried. We are all better people because he took no crap.

Kid wearing diapers at six yo is going to be tormented by his peers and almost assuredly will have psych issues, kids can be viscous towards each other. Effin' parents need a wake up call or intervention, they are harming that poor kid.

Not in my house.... or my fathers for that matter.

Sounds like he is a perfect candidate for the White House. His bone spurs should just be starting to develop.

Kids NEED to learn the pecking order, and who "rules the roost"!

Even children with "special needs" need to learn what they can and cannot get away with.

I have a nephew with ADHD and probably some form of autism, and when he would come over the house he would start jumping up and down (like a pogo stick).
At first I would verbally tell him to stop, which he did.
Then I would (no joking) snap my fingers, and he would stop.

Does he do it now? NO. He learned to control himself and those impulses.

A 6 y o child still in diapers? either the child has some developmental issues or the parents are so lazy and controlling that they would rather ruin the kids chances at a "normal" life for the sake of keeping him under their control.

Sounds like the guy needs to get in his wife’s purse and get his balls back. He needs to be more assertive with the little guy too. I bet him and his wife share social media accounts
