Could use some thoughts, prayers or positive vibes

I'm at Brockton Hospital now since yesterday with my daughter Jenna who has been so sick. They did a cat scan and it shows colitis but that could be a result of an infection called C Dif, she took antibiotics a few weeks ago and maybe that can contribute somehow to this. They are testing that now. She does not do well at all with needles or pain and it has been heartbreaking to see her going thru all the IV sticks and blood drawn sticks, just awful.
We are hoping it is just infection and not colitis since the C Dif can be treated. I don't ask for things like this but I do anything for my kids.
Thank you for listening,
Bruce

Good luck Bruce and family.

The average human digestive tract is home to as many as 1,000 species of microorganisms. Most of them are harmless -- or even helpful -- under normal circumstances. But when something upsets the balance of these organisms in your gut, otherwise harmless bacteria can grow out of control and make you sick. One of the worst offenders is a bacterium called Clostridium difficile (C. difficile, or C. diff). As the bacteria overgrow they release toxins that attack the lining of the intestines, causing a condition called Clostridium difficile colitis.

Though relatively rare compared to other intestinal bacteria, C. diff is one of the most important causes of infectious diarrhea in the U.S.

Treatments for C. diff

Doctors typically prescribe a 10-day course of one of the following oral antibiotics: metronidazole (Flagyl), Dificid (fidaxomicin), or vancomycin (Vancocin). Flagyl is usually tried first. Improvement usually happens within 72 hours after starting antibiotics, but the diarrhea may return temporarily. Another round of antibiotics is needed in about 25% of cases.

Sorry to read this Bruce. Contracted C Dif several years after ingesting bad ice cube believe it or not. Started out as simple you know what from using ice cube from a fridge dispenser at a vacation rental. I waited a couple of days, and shouldn't have. It goes ftom one thing to C Diff. A little difficult to get rid of, but two courses of meds did the trick, and I am sure it will for Jenna. Good vibes and prayers on the way.

one thing i can recommend is music
to reduce her stress levels and to provide a distraction
so she can sort of step away from her predicament
for a brief time and find a breath of fresh air for a bit....

Thanks all

Some results came back, negative for the C dif
But will take longer for the other culture results. I just hope she does not have colitis like her mom does.

She's not a kid anymore but she is still our baby
So far she is getting through this, she has to.

T&P sent.

I spent 5 days in the hospital last year...they said blockage, they said infection, they said colitis, they said...you get the drift. Never really got a definite answer but I think I have a good idea that it was the procedure I had done the week before caused infection and a downward spiral of other unseemingly unrelated events and pain. Stay on them and be her advocate. Digestive tract upset/pain sucks. Any recent procedures done? Other issues, new foods or anything? Don't be afraid to mention any little thing...you never know what can set a body in turmoil......

Best wishes to Jenna!
