Popcorn ceilings

Had a job to repair a popcorn ceiling, as a full 4x8 sheet had fallen. Ended up saying only way was to replace it all. Sheets were originally put up with maybe twelve 1 1/4" sheetrock screws... Surprised it lasted so long. It was a pre 1978 room, so have to assume it was asbestos, as that was what they used back then. Sheets were installed wrong way to the strapping. Strapping was awful. Had to remove, fir, and re strap. Up with new rock, tape mud and prime. Perfect.... They just had me put on a popcorn finish again.... It was like rolling wet concrete uphill. Sucked.

Didn't shoot it on with a hopper gun?

I hate my popcorn ceilings
and I didn't know my 1976 house would have asbestos
that sucks as I have done a large remodeling of it and patched those ceilings and scraped it ect. re sprayed with the hopper, very hard to do it without it being noticable. Gonna suck if I have to tear it down.

Out in Cal they call it orange peel , but it's a flatter texture. Rolling it is much harder
than shooting but for just one sheet the only logical alternative. messy either way.

waste of alot of repair work...new firrings,'rock, tape and mud... deserves only a nice coat of paint...

the whole concept of using the popcorn texture was to either diffuse the light
and break it up or to hide the imperfections of the mud work which is an ART form in itself.

I'd plaster coat the ceiling before I'd spray that crap on there... it accomplishes the same effect but is easyier to keep clean and or restore and is alot more durable...

More often to cover up the lack of craftsmanship in the building process...

i like looking at a designer ceiling

the ones with the perfect swirl of sand paint
by someone who's obviously a MASTER @ it....
