Has Participating Had Any Effect On Your Opinions?

Can anyone recall an occasion when, through the discussion of a political topic (here on this board) where the belief, opinion, or position they held before discussing said topic has undergone a change to the contrary?
In other words, has discussing something here ever made you change your mind?

Nope....

striperman36 09-30-2008 03:33 PM

Nope too

EarnedStripes44 09-30-2008 03:35 PM

yes

buckman 09-30-2008 03:41 PM

Sure, I think Nebe is funny now.

RIJIMMY 09-30-2008 03:41 PM

yes. Believe it or not, I only argue so that others can change my mind. I want to hear the other side.

Nebe 09-30-2008 04:04 PM

I have seen the light a few times.

Joe 09-30-2008 06:28 PM

I'm reading Buckman's reply as no.
I'm a "no" also.
I'm asking because I've never actually seen it happen, and I was wondering if maybe it happened, but a person simply chose to keep it to himself. I've read no evidence of it - but I've only been reading this board a couple of years.

I've softened my position a couple times. I feel if you can't be moved, you either are a freaking genius who thinks they know all or just too impressed with yourself to admit that someone else might be right. I would consider either of these a flaw.

I would generally agree with this. While I can't think of a "position" of mine that's fundamentally changed, at times I've been exposed to information I didn't know that helped refine my understanding.

That being said, I see more banal talking points and little actual thinking.

I'll admit it....I'm just Still Waiting

Joe 10-01-2008 07:42 AM

I suppose it depends if you consider the softening of a position a change of opinion, or the same opinion to a lesser degree.

RIROCKHOUND 10-01-2008 07:45 AM

Positions changed radically, no
Learned a thing or two.
Yup

I agree with the above. I am always opened to what anyone else has to say. Always will be.

I have to admit Spence finally did convince me that Kumbaya is a really cool song. :bshake: :thanks:
