Tuna, tuna everywhere
but in my boat....had a better chance of one jumping in the boat then hooking up!
http://i772.photobucket.com/albums/y...umpingTuna.jpg I think the eeriest thing I saw: NO boats anywhere near the SWC on a Sunday morning! |
We were out there too.We saw hundreds of them, but couldn't get it done.Saw one boat hooked up all day.
|
WE were out there also. Thousands of fish. No love on catsing or trolling. Got bait late but the fish moved on. SW corner real late but we had to head in. "Someone" wanted to go see Tim Mcgraw!!!!!
|
Hint
Slow Trolling Ballyhoo with a simple egg sinker wired under its chin is working for us. Got 3 the other day. They have been shunning artificials for some reason. |

Thanks again Buzz!
Slip Knot, yesterday was your day, it was flat with long rollers. Once the tuna started the adrenaline kicked in, and the fucus on trying to catch one started. Phil and Adam took care of the trolling and I was up front casting. It was a awesome show with a front row seat!
Casted everything in the box, needles, pencils, sluggo's, metal, etc.... Tried slow and fast retrieve, drifting, twitching and live bait... Long day, at one point we were looking forward to catching a bluefish to get a fish in the box, nevermind some bait. Adam was right it was a National Geographic day... Love the movie Buzz! Mike |
This is good I thought I was special yesterday (as usual). Had tuna more of less jumping over our baits. No love (as usual)!
|
the only thing i hear is working is spike macks. we trolled ballys the other day - might as well been trolling hot dogs
|
Macks have been no problem to get. Getting the tuna to eat them is a different story.

We trolled macs and live lined harbor pollack under balloons. No luck...the bally's on board never made it into the water (someone didn't want to take the time to rig them up.....:smash:.....too busy casting)
|
Wow, that hurts!

I had 4 hot dogs the other day.
delicious |
We couldn't get macks, but did try pollack. While jigging bait we got 3 nice bass.:wall:On the plus side, there were a dozen less dogfish swimming when we left.:smash:
|
If it makes you feel better Phil, I only had 1 bite on Saturday. Fish hit 15' from the boat when I was reeling in the kite to move.
Scared the crap out of me, and didn't stay tight. Not my day either. And I'm really sick of Bluefish eating $5 pogies. |
When trolling the 'hoo bump it in and out. No more than 2 kts. The tuna seem to like that action. :) Also dont be afraid of WEIGHT for them. I know sharpies say less weight better mate but sometimes more weight changes your fate..... for the good. :)

Tuna were busting very close on Wednesday. 4 miles out of Marblehead, between Cat Island and Halfway Rock.... crazy. Guy who reported it to me was on way back in from Tillies. Did not hook up tho.....
|
Stopped at Pemberton pier today for a bathroom break, and a guy on the dock was saying people have been catching small tuna at PT. Allerton :smash::confused:
|
a couple of years ago we were chuncking at theives and they started breaking around the boat. little guys like 50# but we were not prepared for them. i've seen a bunch of fish inshore lately but they just won't bite.
