Cheap reliable car/truck

We're in need of a vehicle that can handle being driven roughly 2000 - 3000 miles a month.. Cannot afford to go to a dealership or car lot, as one of us was recently laid off. Looking to spend no more than $500 - $1000. Current truck is not reliable as it will not start on a daily basis. Will probably end of either parting it out or junking it as it has over 350k miles.

If any one knows of one, please let me know.

Unfortunately -- I have no clue how to drive standard, so automatic transmissions only please.

Thanks.

2000 -3000 miles per month is allot to ask
of a $5000 dollar vehicle let alone a $1000 dollar clunker.

just sayin...

Oh I know.. At this moment, its nothing short of a miracle needed. Can only try! :)

If your 500 dollar car makes it 3000 miles once, you got your money's worth lol.

I hate to say it but find a mid 90s 4 speed Toyota Tercel (nothing older than 1992) and learn to drive stick.

There are some autos out there too:

You want to buy a Truck that's reliable to put 2000 - 3000 miles on for between 500- $1000 ?
No offense, but is this the Common Core Math
they are teaching in schools !
More like 3-5k is realistic to spend.

They teach reading comprehension too :laughs: She said vehicle. Current truck not reliable.

I have an in-law who has over 300000 on her 96 civic without ever doing anything more than maintenance type stuff to it. That or a Tercel will have a good shot at doing what you need for the cost. Mazda protege is another one that is worth a shot.

I had a protege5 and it was incredibly reliable. Never gave me one issue through 200000 miles. That is about what I sold mine for a year or two ago with double the mileage. If I were in your position I would grab that in a second if everything checked out ok.
