Taking a hit

Ha, fooled you.
I was enjoying my time on the ice before the rain and warm weather and was wondering whether 6 or 7 inches of black ice can endure these conditions safely.Any brave souls that have measured the damage.

Same with the pond at the end of my street. The edges had some ice this morning but most of it was iceless. My kids skating ring in the yard went from solid ice to water filled with leaves and sticks after all the wind.

Most of it was open water. Did you see how messed up the ice near the shore was? It looks like it was all smashed up and then re-froze before settling.

That's how the Watuppa was. 1300 Acres of frozen ended up the NE section of the pond. From shore to about 40-50 feet out. It looked insane like broken glass piled up. Very weird looking. The day of the heaviest wind was also a crazy sight. There was smoke/fog blowing over the bottom of rt 6 and 195 between the 2 ponds where Lepages is. Less than 100 yds vis looking south with the wind hauling the steam in your face across road was a sight to see.

Fished some fairly scary ice yesterday, few flags, but not on my tilts.

we had a good 5-6" today small pond that is protected from the wind. 1 st time out for my 6 year old and picked up a nice fish on the first drop . she cant wait to do it again. yet it was a short day aprox 1 1/2 but she loved it and all that matters. hot co-co and snacks help.

6-8" average at both ponds I fished this weekd up in Westford and N Chelmsford.

For some places last weeks wind and rain were a death knell for the ice, whee on others it just cleaned the crap ice off the top leaving smooth clear black ice!
People were skating everywhere I went. (even some while they fished!)
