Question

Where would I get stands to hold the rod while its spinning.
I have a makeshift motor and controller I can adapt, so I need 2-3 stand with rollers. (Is that the right terminology?)

New to this, but I'm gonna give it a try. Been learning from a friend.

SInce im posting, where do you get supplies? butts, seats guides etc....???? Maybe all in one place.?

Van,
Check with Mike CC first. Second source is Mud Hole Custom Tackle | The World's Largest Rod Building Supplier

As for supports, you can build them out of 1x with a v notch. Line the notch with felt.

Depending on cost, it might be out of my range.
I only intend to build 1 rod (at least for now). EIther way it will get so little use, is why I was going to rig with the motor and controller I have
.
Still let me know $$$$. PM if you'd rather.

Found these on ebay:

3 rod supports for rod building wrapper wrapping lathe - eBay (item 320580127190 end time May-20-11 06:26:10 PDT)

Fishing rod building dryer rpm motor - eBay (item 280663088285 end time Apr-29-11 17:26:11 PDT)

I see what you mean about v blocks with some felt though rather than those 3 wheel thingys.

No matter what you use to hold the rod make sure you put a couple turns of masking tape on the rod wheree the supports touch the rod to keep the rod from getting marked bt the supportst. It doesn't take much in the way of dust or dirt to make a nice permanent ring around the blank.Ron

For one rod just get a wide box and cut V grooves on both sides and wrap the rod by hand.

I have the best setup available and i still do a lot of hand wrapping. yes its nice to have the power when you can use it but half the guides are so small its easy just to spin the rod between your fingers. Underwraps are easier with power but again they are certainly doable by hand.

Good info guys thanks. I think I will rig somthing temporary like SH suggests.

I do have a slow motor for drying etc...and its on a bracket I can just screw to my work bench.

I saw a kit on Mudhole for build like 1 or 2 rods. It has the epoxy, thread sealants and stuff.
Just need the parts. (butt seat etc...)

The stick I want to make is a spin for tuna.
Calstar has some super blanks, but its hard to figure out which one to order from mudhole or merrick. Soooooo many....

I want 7-8 foot and strong as hell. Got to do some research
