I feel less hooks changes the dynamic balance of plugs, even when the fixed balance point remains the same. I'm not sure how important this is, but I think plugs swim differently with an action centered further forward and less around the belly. How that would effect a conrad, I'm unsure. For what it is worth, I've fished the jr conrad many times without ever having a hook fouling issue....although I throw them primarily on conventional tackle (which means less tumble).

Paul on the peanut conrad if I place the weight at 1.440" it doesn't look like the drawing, the drawing has the weight more towards the rear hook. Would the weight be at 2.440"?...I notice on the larger conrads the weight is more towards the rear hook, only reason I ask. Thanks

yes it is 2.44 not 1.44. Good catch. I wrote it wrong in the picture. I hope no one made it the wrong way, Sorry. I will have to retake the picture and insert it in there when I get some time. I changed it in my note book.

No worries. Thanks for confirming this. Spun a few last night and figured I'd wait to drill them just to be sure

Just bumping this up as messing with a conrad jr has been on my list for a while and it took me a while to search and find this thread which had some great info in it. Any idea if anyone carries the conrad jr lips ?

ProfessorM 03-04-2017 01:16 PM

No one. Salty will not sell the lips anymore unless you buy the kit. But I know someone that would be willing to give you one, but only one because stock is getting scary low and has no intention of making anymore anytime soon. Just got to promise not to tell anyone.

Thanks Paul but you can hold on to it. I didn't know they were hard to come by. I like the idea of fishing eel skins on them in the canal but I'll just come up with another way to get an eel skin deep.

Your welcome to one. Really.

Thanks Paul I really do appreciate it, but really not worth the effort to learn a new plug without being able to do a batch and experiment with them.

If memory serves me well an Atom Jr lip with curled edges work. Senior Conrad an Atom 40 lip w/curled edges.

You guys are killing me. I have the Spring itch bad enough, now seeing this, I'm lucky I'm single because now this is unbearable. If I'm not working on the kayak, I'll be at the lathe. Blessing and a curse to not have a garage to set up shop in....
