marchand playing some great hockey right now

The guy is fun to watch. Seems everywhere the puck is.

eskimo 01-20-2014 07:42 PM

He was definitely due after a pretty long slump. Not many players can stay hot the whole duration of a season. With him - waiting through a slump always seems worth it.

spinncognito 01-21-2014 07:48 AM

The guy has some real talent moving and shooting the puck. Should be more of a star in the leauge but will need to play consistently to gain that destinction. Leads the team in goals now and will finish with 25-30.

afterhours 01-21-2014 07:53 AM

best when he plays on the edge....not quite a kenny linsman but can be close. march has much more pure talent imo.

massbassman 01-21-2014 10:37 AM

Nice to see him snap out of his slump, he contributes so much when he's playing well. Now if we could just wake up Lucic and Iginla!

Third straight game with 6 goals tonight, Hat Trick for Marchand, Shutout for Rask...

Mike P 01-28-2014 03:35 PM

I watched the Panthers' game with Detroit on Sunday. It was classic Timmy. Spectacular saves mixed in with some bad goals when he was completely out of position and down on the ice. With it tied 4-4, in OT, it was deja vu to game 7, vs. the Habs, when Ryder came out of nowhere and kicked the puck out when Timmy was down and out---a Panthers' D-man did the same thing.

Then Thomas was lights-out during the shoot-out. Made it look easy.

The Bergie/Marchand/Smith line is certainly hot right now.

The biggest disappointment has been Lucic/Krejci/Iginla. They have been good at times but have lacked a consistent effort for most of the year. I do think they will heat up heading into the playoffs.

They must have seen your post. They're playing great tonight.

I really love the move they made with the third line. Spooner down to Providence, move Soderberg to center (his natural position), and put Paille at LW. Kelly now centering the Merlot line, Campbell to the wing, and Caron to the sidelines.

Now if they can just keep Loui from the head hunters...........

They took advantage of Thomas's known tendencies to overplay everything and scored at will. He should get a suspension for that shot to Soderberg at the end of the game.

Hopefully no let-down coming Thursday against the Habs (3rd game in 4 nights)

I'm thinking that Timmah gets a phone call from Shanny sometime today.

I'm old enough to remember Wayne Maki almost killing Ted Green with his stick.

massbassman 01-30-2014 11:44 AM

Gonna be a good one tonite! Hoping the scoring strek continues... nobody Id'e rather see the B's throw a beatdown on, then them! Hopefully Claude shifts the lines around so that Thornton and Prust can have a go. Cant wait!! Go B's!!!

I'm excited too for tonights game. Playing backyard hockey on friend's rink this evening with a bunch of 10-yr-olds to get me fired up.

Better keep your head up Goose!!!

I hear you! Some of these kids are good--fast and with hands. All of 'em dreaming to be the next Kane.

Mike P 01-30-2014 04:17 PM

Try as I might, I can't work up any real animosity against Kane or the Black Hawks in general. Even after last year's finals. If they're playing on cable, on a B's off night, I'll always watch. I kind of wish that the league moved them back to the east too, instead of the Blue Jackets, just to keep the original six in one conference. Big natural rivalry with the Red Wings---as big out there as Bs-Habs.

goosefish 01-30-2014 08:35 PM

This is painful. B's not looking good. I'm heading to bed.

Thing is, Rask is usually so good, that when he gives up 3 in just a little over a period, Claude knows he's having a bad night and lifts him. I'm not thrilled with Johnson as a back-up, and I'm hoping that Svedberg continues to improve down in Providence, and they bring him up. This butterfly style that they all play today must take a lot out of a goalie, and if you look around the league at #2 goalies, many of them have started 15-20 games. Johnson's started what? 9? 10? I think that Rask, Niemi and Fleury lead the league in number of games started. Fleury isn't going to the Olympics. Rask and Niemi are. That's going to hurt both the Bs and the Sharks down the stretch.

Mike P 01-31-2014 03:17 PM

Oh, and Pacioretty, keep on yapping about how your guys are number one at the end of January.:rotf2:

massbassman 01-31-2014 04:06 PM

Overall poor performance, no real offense to speak of. Didn't agree with taking out Rask, but understand the need to try and motivate team. Montreal was just one step ahead all night, played a good game. Budaj was solid. Not even a good fight to ease the pain!!!

I cant wait for the Russian hockey team. All the hype and all the pressure for gold. We'll see. Should be some good games on the big ice.

Mike P 02-10-2014 04:26 PM

Sweden drew the softest group---Czech Republic is their only real competition. The other two are Latvia and Switzerland. They should cruise to the medal round.

US and Russia are in the same group, along with Slovakia and Slovenia.

Canada has Finland as their biggest test in their group. Austria and Norway are jokes.

So you can pencil in most of the medal round right now. US, Russia, Canada, Finland, Sweden, and the Czechs. I'd say Slovakia and Switzerland should be the other two. That's when the real games begin. I could see Sweden beating any of the Big 3, if Lundqvist is on his game. Finland has the best goaltending trio in Rask, Niemi, and Lehtonen, but their chances really went downhill when Koivu and Filpulla had to drop out with injuries.

goosefish 02-10-2014 05:08 PM

I agree fully Mike. Those are the medal teams. Anything else would be a major upset, a country's inability to play together as a team.

Mike P 02-11-2014 03:34 PM

Switzerland has a great goalie in Hiller, and he could keep them in games when his team is being outplayed. It's a big question mark for the US. Quick was injured most of the year, and hasn't been the same Quick since his return. Ryan Miller and Jimmy Howard were our other two, and I thought that Howard got hurt just before the break. Why Ben Bishop isn't there is something that I still can't figure out.
