Car Insurance Adjuster help / Bodyguy Help

Long story short went out to dinner saturday night. On the way home the dome light in my wife Crv is going on off, then off. I was thinking the hatch wasn't shut all the way. 5 minutes later the dome comes on and stays on, and the dash is indicating driver rear door ajar. My daughter friend open and closed it both light went out and we went home. Now sunday my wife and daughter come home and the car won't lock, and the dome light is staying on, so she checked the hatch, drivers front door and then the drivers rear door, and that was the culprit. She really had to almost slam it to close, and looking at it the reveal around the wheel well side in huge compared to the passenger door, and it seems like you almost need to lift it for it to latch and the doors to lock. I think someone hit it at the restaurant parking lot in the lower part of the door with the big molding but not hard enough to crease it, but enough pressure to bend the lower half of the door.

I told my wife to call Plymouth Rock and file a claim, any opinions of ideas.

Tough to say without pictures. The door opens and closes difficult? It would be tough to not damage the moulding but bend the door. I'd have somebody else look at it prior to insurance. They may whack you a surcharge and deductible.

My guess is they either whipped the door open like a bear and bent one of the hinges so now it won't shut right. Or they shut the seatbelt In the door and bent one of the hinges. Or they backed into a solid object with the door open and bent the hinges.
Or, that door hardly ever gets opened and the hinges are rusted tight. which opening it, bent one of the hinges.
Or someone backed into the door And Put a big fat dent under the lower door cladding and the door cladding is hiding the real damage.
Could be as simple and just wrenching the door up or down with your bare hands, needing hinges, adjusting hinges or an all out skin or door replacement

If you can prove (meaning they cant prove it wasn't) a hit and run there is no surcharge only the deductible

Mike I am starting to like the seatbelt theory, I think there are some scratches in the Jamb on the latch side, how much would a body shop charge to replace the hinges and line up the door? It's an 07 CRV

I though the same thing about bending the door and not damaging the molding. I am trying hard not to play the "Know It all" lol

It might be just as easy as leaning on it or pulling it up the right way. Usually It can be bent back. If it does need hinges say 50 each for the hinges, they need to be painted , and installed. Could go 3-400 bucks just to swap hinges. I recomend you bring it to a smaller (not dealer) shop and ask if the door can be bent back easily with out replacing anything.

I fixed it, the fixed part of the latch on the door jamb was loose, tightened it up and voila door closes perfectly, light goes out and doors lock. Just save a $500 deductible.

Thanks guys

do not know what U R covered for but the norm under a thou no surcharge...do not take my word for it...ask your insurance company

My wife recently backed into garage door channel with door opened...knocked door out of alignment, hard to close...went to body shop cost 55 bucks to re align and touch up paint...it did not dent the door.

here is the hard part....I can not do any work anymore(health)...home depot straight channel cost about ten bucks....well happened on a Saturday...had to call overhead door...being Saturday cost double time 150 per hr. cost me 300 bucks for 20 minutes work.....:wall:
