OK, I am going to take the minority position on this one

Finally had a very anticipated Sop Of Sunshine (Two
Roads, 04DEC15) and was not at all impressed.

Maybe too much Trillium and Treehouse of late. Had some Fort Point Galaxy tonight just to prove it.

Good but not great. Let the debate begin.

I've never had it from a can - just on tap. That said, I've noticed many of my favorite craft brews are not consistent from batch to batch, Captain's Daughter is one example. I've had a four pack that was delicious and another that was OK. Not old or skunked, maybe its what I was eating when I drank it. I think there is lots of reasons that could effect taste. I'd give it another shot from a different batch if I were you.

Was the can kept cold?

I do think they vary some batch to batch. I've never had a bad one but some are excellent and others are just good. Could just be my sense of taste that particular evening though.

Am I just misunderstanding you?
Sip of Sunshine is from Lawson's Liquids, not Two Roads. Am I mistaken here?

OK , just checked. I had no idea it was a collaboration.

I've never had sip of sunshine, but it could be a matter of freshness. I've found that some beers, lunch for example, can go from great to good in about a week as they settle out.

Could be any one or more of the above, but likely kept cold and I would hope it would keep in a can for two weeks. I will definitely give it another go, especially if found on tap around town.

Right now I have a Julius in hand that has likely been in the can for less than 8hours....Yummy!

Hard part will be to give them up as gifts later this week....well....time will tell.

Budweiser makes a great gift.

Not a collaborative. Two roads contract brews it and lots of other beers. Batches of micro brews are inconsistent. That or maybe the hype spoiled it. It is a good as anything I have had, but it is occasionally inconsistent like everything. I try to avoid getting myself into tit for tat about this one is better than that one. Like snowflakes and women, no two are exactly the same, which I try to appreciate, at least in the case of the good ones.

I'm not quite there Josh......yet.

Rockport24 12-22-2015 11:35 AM

I have only had it on tap in VT and it was one of the best beers I've had for sure.

Someone please explain the Lawson's/Two Roads thing. On every menu in VT it was listed as "Lawson's Liquids Sip O Sunshine"

I believe they're contract brewing at TR and distributing within CT.

I've had it at a few places in VT on draft and while it's good I wouldn't say it's one of his best.

My friend bought a vermont batch and it wasn't as good as the two roads batch he had at that time. Too many variables for these beers to be consistent.

I think another issue is the pressure to differentiate on novelty because there's so much competition these days. First it was the cross style beers, now it's the collaborations. So let's just mix my DIPA with your DIPA can it and charge 50% more. Or we could add some Andean lichen and charge even more.

The VT brewers were insulated from a lot of this with their limited reach and willingness to keep things small...but that is changing. Will be interested to see who can keep it together.

Rockport24 12-22-2015 04:46 PM

I just find it crazy that they would want to stay small. Stone is very consistent in terms of quality and they seem like they are doing a huge business..
I'm not saying turn into a Boston Beer Company, but if you got a winner, run with it!

I have not been disappointed with Sip. I also like it better than HT.
