This guy may have the answer to how Stonehenge was buit. He lifts and stands up a 19 ton cement beam with basically wood.

Doesn't matter how much the stones weigh, as the basic principle is the same. You would need to be cautious with the counterweights and the shoring materials, but it would be interesting to see more retro-creative thinking like this.

When I was in high school my physics teacher had a competition each year where he posed a challenge to the students and they had to come up with a solution.

One year is was to create a method of protecting a raw egg while it was sling-shot across the floor. Winners were creative. one packed the egg in a marshmallow fluff lined box. Another suspended the egg in a hammock hanging from an axle between to bike wheels.

Another year is was to build a bridge with drinking straws and scotch tape, with the winner being able to support the most weight before collapsing. The winner held a whole lot of bricks (item used as measure of weight).

Hopefully this kind of "outside-the-box" thinking isn't as rare as it seem nowadays....
