Hatteras Jack Breakaway Competition Rods and modified reels...

<i><font color="0000cc">
One extremely impressive setup from the MSBA show was from Hatteras Jack's Tackle Shop from RODANTHE, NC.
First time I have seen the Breakaway rods up close and personal...Sweet! Gotta have one. I am very interested in the 10' for 1-3oz. Rod had plenty of backbone and was extremely light but solid feeling... Half the weight of my Lami... Price was very sweet as well. Also at this shop was a highly tuned Abu 6500 Mag Elite, a reel which in its stock form has been getting alot of smiles in the northeast... This reel would free spool for, no lie, well over a minute... Never seen anything like it. Need a little extra distance at the Ditch??? As I mentioned in a previous post, this reel was stolen at the show. This Mag Elite, not for sale, was modified for competition casting...

If you are interested in this rod or reel, I highly recommend Hatteras Jack. I'm going to put in a link here for them... The rods were of exceptional quality, very impressed...

Next time I am down there I will have to stop by his shop. I saw it but didnt stop last time. I too am impressed with the Mag and the breakaway/All-Star rods. I just bought a second MAg and 2 All-Stars, a 1145 and a 1208 for jigging the ditch.......Tres over at Hatterasoutfitters.com took care of me, The folks at the Reddrumtackle.com also answered a bunch of quesitons for me too. Lots of good folks down that way....havent had a bad experience yet, you should try to get down that way.....they have a decent run of big bass while we are snowed in......

Interesting thing John, I just found out that I may have a beachfront place to stay down there for very short$$! I am certianly thinking of a trip at the end of the year down there...

Not having seen Tres work up close and personal, I have never been as impressed as I was with that modified Mag from Hatteras Jack's. Too fast for working eels but that can be accomodated for... I am also interested in those All Star/Breakaway setups. Do you know if the Breakaways are a special blank from All-Star or if they are just a specification on over the counter rods??? Love to hear what your experience is with those rods...

John the guy who wraps Tres rods does nice work. Salthear has one of them. The 1208 seems like a good jig stick Mike P has one of those. The 1145 will be done as a spinner for the jetties I oocasionally need a spinner on. My understandin gis that Breakways are built on All-Star blanks to the specs of some longcasting guy. I forget his name. Tres and most of the OBX gang are into distance casting so when they built a cusotm rod for oyu there is a lot of knowledge and expertese in them.

As fo rthe OBX I will be there form Christmas through new years again, we stay in NAgs HEad, its about 12 miles north of Oregon inlet. When do you think you might be down there?

Hey, great news Mr Redmond. Lots of fatherhood going around these days. Best wishes to you and the mom.

The guy who gives All-Star the specs for Breakaway rods and the blanks they are built on is Nick Meyer, a South African transplanted to Texas. All Breakaway rods are built on All-Star blanks, but not all All-Star blanks are built to Breakaway's specs. The Breakaway-spec blanks are bulit with one S-glass layer of fabric in the blank for a little added hoop strength, according to Nick. I have the 1208 blank, it casts as well as my 11' Arra and is a little easier to wield in some of the tighter spots along the Ditch. Brad just bought the blank from Hatteras Jack at the show, too. He didn't know I owned one when he bought it.

Thanks dude! I've screwed up a lot of things in life, done some well, but that is my best achievement :btu:

My first was 5 years away when this thread started and is now a teenager. I certainly fish less now, but it is a pretty good gig overall.

In reference to John's original thread, I had a Abu CS-7000 Magged by Ryan White at Hatteras Jacks some years ago.
Awesome job! The reel was actually too fast for me and I sold it to someone on this site.

I call BS...those were some of the best times on the site! No offense to JR...Im sure he will agree! Hope you're doing well Dave!

Kids or no kids I think a lot of us fish less than we used too but the older you get the more that time becomes sacred! I'm not ashamed....it's just life....and thats OK to admit, right?

I found them. Thanks Chris!

I was just talking about how much I missed Dave the other day.

I miss you more. It has nothing to do with my new, detachable penises, either.

Love,
Rick
