connectivity issues

I have a Belkin router which seems to be the cause of our dsl connection problems. When router is disconnected and comp. is connected to dsl box there are no issues. I have 3 comps in the house that all have the same connection problems, "server not found"
Is there an inherent problem with Belkin and Verizon, just Belkin in general?
Is there a better router?
One comp is HP Ltop
One is Dell xps Dtop
Last a netbook ???

Thanks in advance I havent a clue:confused:

are you just hooking the router up with out properly power cycling?

has the router ever worked in the past?

i have no problem with Belkin at all, they can be a little tough when setting up encryption , but they are a work horse.

with the router in place did you try hooking a wire from one of the laptops, or desk top to the router and see if it can connect?

Yes the router works intermittently. I have to repeatedly refresh the try again screen ALOT until the web site is displayed.

No I have not tried to hookup the Ltops directly. The comp im using now is brand new (slickdeals coupon:)) but the old desktop had the same issues. Problems started when we put in the router, nvr had one b4.
Dtop > FFox
Netbook > Chrome
Ltop > IE i think

After many attempts this reply comes via the HP laptop using FFox plugged into the router.
Thanks again

Skip thanks for your help.
So now I'm running straight to the dsl box bypassing the router with no connection problems, fast even. I guess a different router is in order? Any preferences? is one sold in a bigbox store any different than one sold elsewhere?

How old was the Belkin? I've had connection problems similar to what you describe a few times and a new router always fixed the issue with no changes to the devices.

My only guess is that the wireless components in the consumer level stuff they sell at Best Buy etc... just blow up after a while.

Problems like this are hard to work out in a forum, because people don't respond right away, Next time PNG, i would suggest we talk over the phone.

Absolutely your suggestions are welcome. I've been pounding the reviews in pc mag and the like but I don't know what the heck I'm reading so thanks. What I came up with is,
Linksys 4200 or
Netgear n600

if you had to choose between the 2, netgear that linksys router is still on the old platform, however the netgear can get smashed on rt 95 for all i care. but that is my opinion, ford - chevy- dodge, if you get my drift.

Check the date of the reviews, alot of them are 6mo or better in most times. You couldnt give me a linksys right now, i will take dlink or belkin, however netgear has made some leaps and bounds when theu upgraded to the new platform.

Here is what to look for when purchasing a router.
Brand name
multiple antenna's
IP V6 compatable

If you are gaming or have heavy traffic make sure its duel band.
