Newspaper guy/girl---

About 5 Am, the guy/girl who delivers the paper, can't tell driving too fast, wings my paper outa the car window into the bushes or on the street.
That is, unless it's snowing, then they throw it right in the center of the side walk to be coverd by snow so i don't see it, and it ends up as confetti as it runs thru the snowblower and the plastic cover wraps itself around the shaft so tight ya have to cut it off with a box cutter. :lossinit:
Guess who sends me the first Christmas card with a self addressed envelope in it every year. :af:

Mine hits my street at 3:30AM with the tunes CRANKED every day. I wish her ill.....

Raven 02-14-2006 05:46 PM

is there not

an electronic version of the same newspaper online?

sok 02-14-2006 06:11 PM

The herald has an electronic version.
They want you to pay for that too.
My street he shows up at 5:30, stops in the middle of the street with the radio on,door wide open, flashers going, throws three papers, then backs down the street going against any traffic that may be coming the right way.
Does anyone remember when it use to be a kid on foot or on a bike?
Paper boy?
Now it's paper guy with the SUV.

i had a paper route

in 1962 -64...
I saw a UFO one day...
cigar shaped - parked motionless in
the sky...didnt move an inch.
until it zoomed off suddenly...
in a big turn around move...
disapeared in 5 seconds.

i had watched it for over 30 minutes
i was too excited to finish my route
that day... what a RUSH ! :uhuh:
of course,,,nobody would
believe me...
then or now..:af:
i dont read newspapers.
I just burn them.

I was thinking the same thing !!!
When I was 12, I had a paper route till I was 15.(the Patriot Ledger)
Peddled my bike 5 days a week about 7 miles with my paper bag tied across my handle bars with about 35 papers in it.
Now I see the guy with the car or mini van with the flashers going and driving on the wrong side ofthe street very early on my way to work!

Call up the newspaper and tell them you want your paper deliver at the same location box, door, roof, whatever or you will cancel the subscription.

PNG 02-14-2006 08:17 PM

My paper gets put in between the storm and main door, never a problem:hihi:
Thanks BD*******

Get a dollor bill, run it thru a paper shredder, dump it tin the envelope, and send it... Turnabout is fair play :D

Our paper guy is pretty reliable. We pay for the entire year including his tip all at once. I figure the times we're away and have him cancel delivery is money in his pocket. Anyway, every year the guy sends out a page long letter making you feel bad and actually asking people to be generous if they decide to give him a holiday tip. This guy has never missed a delivery, which is amazing since he's had about six different diseases, some life threatening situations, one year he developed dyslexia, another year it was vertigo, this year he claimed he got carpul tunnel from flipping papers out his car window.
The mailman is no better. He's the first to leave a Christmas card in our mailbox (without a stamp on it), yet whenever we're home during the day, it's never him who delivers the mail. I haven't figured that one out yet.

I stiff em all ! no one tips me for fixing their network connection even though I walked across campus to get there in the rain . Its their job !

justplugit 02-15-2006 01:09 PM

hmm Karl, sounds fair. :D Mailman is a different story, tip him real good as i always get the right mail, has to climb slippery steps snow or rain and even brings the paper up if he happens to see it in the bushes.:btu:

Several years ago, my family started getting a free local rag delivered to our driveway. Of course I pick it up every week and put it directly in the recycling bin. I figured it's not worth the effort to complain and it becomes my weekly routine. About two winters I forget about it, it hits the snowblower and jams it up good. I'm smoking mad now. I call the company, tear them a new one because I don't want their free crappy paper etc. Ever since that call, they throw two of the free papers in my driveway! It's actually kinda funny.

I haven't seen a regular kid paperboy in a long time which is too bad. Like others said they want to start off making more money. Having a route as a paper boy when your a kid is not about the money, it is more about learning responsibilty to get a job done, keeps a kid out of too much trouble etc.

I delivered the Quincy Sun as a kid, only a weekly paper but it a good thing as a kid.

As far as tipping mail men......I don't, some of my neihbors do..I son't see it. This is there job, and they are well paid with great benefits. It's not like it is a cocktail waitress that has to make tips. No one tips me at my job for keeping the lights on and I don't want one, just pay me.

Great story JustPlugIt. Used to have this kid come through the neighborhood with no muffler and the boombox cranked up every morning at 3:30 a.m. delivering the Globe. Had to take the dog out 3:25 a.m. to pee. Heard him coming, tied up dog and walked out to street and flagged the guy down. Polited asked the kid to keep radio down and it worked. Told him I couldn't do anything about muffler, because it takes money to fix but it would be nice if you turn down the radio because that wouldn't cost you anything to do.

justplugit 02-20-2006 10:52 PM

That's prolly the best way to handle it Swimmer. If that doesn't work than ya go to the dog and dollar shredder. :D
