to those who criticized trump for walking out of border security meeting last week

it’s reported today that Trump invited congressional democrats to a meeting to discuss birder security. It’s reported that none chose to attend.

so to the liberals here who criticized Trump for walking out of the last meeting when Pelosi said there’d be no funding for a wall, so you criticize democrats for refusing to show up and negotiate?

Got Stripers 01-15-2019 02:46 PM

I think its certainly hard to make a judgement without knowing the circumstances, especially if Trump gave them no indication his position has changed. If he indicated he is willing to find a middle ground and the full boarder wall isn't any longer a must have, then certainly I'd be just as upset they didn't attend. If however they knew up front nothing has changed and he wasn't going to open government until he got full funding for the wall, I guess they would be repeating the previous meeting and what would be the point.

spence 01-15-2019 02:51 PM

It was a stunt, the dems they had invited aren’t leadership.

He didn’t invite people who could negotiate, remember can anyone but Trump negotiate on his side, ask Graham about that
From Fox
Trump, however, did not invite Pelosi, instead reaching out to rank-and-file Democrats including centrist Democrats from districts where Trump is popular. A Pelosi aide reportedly said she gave lawmakers her blessing to attend, telling her leadership team that other congressional Democrats can see what she and others have dealt with during the shutdown.

Pelosi predicted that after meeting with Trump, the lawmakers would want to make a "citizen's arrest," according to the aide.

But the lawmakers ultimately decided not to attend.

Is birder security in charge of ordering the hamberders?

Just curious.

I’d be hesitant to go to another meeting after he said, “I’ll own the shutdown, it’s on me.” And then proceeded to blame everyone but him for the next 4 weeks.

A transparent attempt by someone who thinks they are a master negotiator to split apart the Democratic party piece by piece. It's embarrassing what a horendous negotiator he is.

Trump’s wall as it was sold to the American people is immoral.

Well, that was just a lie, the bigotry used to sell it was immoral.

They, Spence, et al., keep repeating the same trick . . . keep showing the same turd over and over and eventually, they believe, it will acquire an attractive shine.

Maybe it’s more like just point out the obvious on the hope some people will wake up.

you describe what Trump does on every Topic perfectly...

Yet you feel Spence is conducting himself in the same manner. it somehow becomes. a unsavory Tactic????

wdmso 01-16-2019 05:16 AM

the bottom line the senate leader McConnell blocks House bill to reopen government for second time

Stating he wont take a vote on a bill Trump wont pass... " McConnell for weeks has said he would not bring legislation to the floor on the shutdown unless there was a deal between President Trump"

Seems McConnell is being an obstructionist seeing Bill start in the house his arse is swinging in the breeze and this is not how this works

and the Senators vote by voice. Those who support the bill say “yea,” and those who oppose it say “nay.” If a majority of the Senators say “yea,” the bill passes in the U.S. Senate and is ready to go to the President.

and he vetos it can be overridden (if they can) the Senators need to Do their Job !!... Stand up vote!! and be seen by the American Public and their position on the issue ... not Hid in the Senate chambers with their heads in a hole waiting for the storm to pass.... like cowards

Love the interview I just watched of a border patrol agent walking the reporter thru a couple 700 foot long tunnels, stating they are building them all the time. The dig them deep, under roads, airports, buildings; the walls they are digging under now doesn't stop them but the new big and shiny one will.

Sea Dangles 01-16-2019 09:41 AM

In Egypt their wall runs 20’ deep into the ground to prevent such intrusions from the bad guys. Maybe we just need a better wall.

Wrong wall
And just how much do you think that would cost
Keep in mind that a large part (more than 1200 miles) of our unfenced southern border is a river, the Rio Grande, in a floodplain. That creates big issues with fences or walls and flooding, look at any of the low gradient rivers in New England.

The nations with fences/walls in the rest of the world wish the people at their borders were as nonviolent as the ones at ours.

Pointing out, over, and over, to the same audience, in a childish nyah nyah nanya nanya sarcastic manner, something that hasn't happened . . . yet . . . could be done with every pol's, Dem's or Repub's, promises that didn't get done. "Maybe" you should get on your google horse and ferret out all the broken promises by the current pols in order to wake us up. Or, "maybe" you should wake up to the old Q and A, 'how can you tell when a politician is lying--if they are moving their lips."

Or maybe, you're selectively biased.

No matter how deep a tunnel is, it leads to a spot, when it is discovered, where greeting parties of border agents can welcome the newcomers. Or it can be destroyed. It's easier to destroy a tunnel than to build a miles long wall.

The Dad Fisherman 01-16-2019 10:39 AM

Well, digging a tunnel under a wall is a lot slower than just walking across the border, isn't it?
