That's why I want to find out what it is so I can try to get it healthy again.

smoke it and see what happens?

derf 02-17-2007 05:36 PM

"corn plant" if i'm remembering right it's part of the dracena family ...
bright indirect light , needs humidity ...

ProfessorM 02-17-2007 06:46 PM

sounds right

First try watering it frequently and place it someplace where it may get some natural light. Like near a picture window etc. Be careful not to drown it though. It looks like it might of been next to some type of heat source like a vent etc. How's the soil look? If it was near a heat source it's probably bone dry.

If all else fails, crank up the Floyd and listen to Freak and smoke the damn thing!

Just buy some "mother-in-law's tongue". It's very sharp, and thus, aptly named. We have it by the fire where it gets almost no light, and we always forget to water it. It's been alive for YEARS. Other than that, I have a brown thumb.

The size and shape of the leaves indicates it doesn't require a whole lot of sun. Large leafed plants are typically native undergrowth and survive very well in low light conditions.

grab that plant right at the soil and wiggle that sucker right out of the
pot it's in ...and look at the roots. if they are in a mesh ....in the shape of the pot it was in....then it's root bound. get the next size pot and put in some richer soil ....and it'll come back.

my wife saw this leafless tree thrown in a dumpster by this bank...
so she grabbed it and gave it to me to fix. I made up a soil mix with compost and repotted it in a larger pot and now ...it's our house tree and it's looking great!
