New coast guard regs for ALL commercial fishing vessels.
Come to the Stellwagen Bank Charter Boat Association meeting in Marshfield this Tuesday night and hear for yourself, the new requirements for all commercial fishing vessels.

I believe the new regs also extend to recreational vessels fishing commercially... Whether it be for tuna, bass, scup, tog etc.

Yes if the intent is to sell fish. then that makes you a commercial vessel.
And forget the "I'm rec fishing(until I get a giant on board) " the coast guard is not buying it. It's all about intentions and theyre pretty good at figuring out just what It is you're doing out there. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
I also hear now that all charter boats will have to be inspected. I guess they are doing away with the un-inspected vessel? (OUPV)

This is what I gathered.
Here's all the info: FishSafe.info | Commercial Fishing Industry Vessel Safety FishSafe.info | Commercial Fishing Industry Vessel Safety FishSafe.info | Commercial Fishing Industry Vessel Safety BEGINNING OCTOBER 16, 2012, ALL COMMERCIAL FISHING VESSELS THAT OPERATE BEYOND 3 NAUTICAL MILES FROM THE BASELINE (SHORE) WILL NEED TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE A DOCKSIDE SAFETY EXAM. FishSafe.info | Commercial Fishing Industry Vessel Safety FishSafe.info | Commercial Fishing Industry Vessel Safety FishSafe.info | Commercial Fishing Industry Vessel Safety Basically the same regs for "commercial" fishing vessels that have always been in place, are all still in effect. The difference now is: 1. You need an inspection, to prove your in compliance. And 2.The boundary line has been moved to include anything outside 3 miles.. So that means, if your boat is DOCUMENTED you will need a ships station license from the FCC. (as required in the regs) State registered boats do not need this. Also if your boat is documented make sure it is documented for "commercial" use and not JUST "recreational" use You want it documented as BOTH. otherwise If your out past 3 miles with your family on a documented commercial only boat, you better have survival suits for your wife and kids.. You don't need day shapes or alcohol testing kits or compass deviation charts. UNLESS you fall into that category of boats per the regs. Are you over 36 feet? are you Dragging? Scolloping? etc.... You also need to have safety drills. If you have a 100T master license you can do them yourself. Otherwise a friend who has their 100T can do them for you..
