Gear for togging?

What do you use? I was going to bring an S glass soft conventional boat rod with Abu Record 6501.

Built a couple rain shadow live bait convench for drifting macs and use them with squiders for tog..... Gets the job done..
Need to feel those bites to hook them devils ... :-)

Something a little lighter with a spinning makes for some fun...

Fingers crossed ....

A long time back when the tuna football craze was just starting, I bought a Shimano travala spinning rod which as supposed to be the balls for jigging small tuna. Well I never lucked into any of the action, even though I had a couple shots, but this rod is the balls for tog and jigging BSB or stripers. It's a TVS70ML, rated for 20-50# braid and jigs 55-135g, medium light with fast action. It has the power to move a tog, but you experience the fight unlike some of the heavy gear I know many use.

We use old Penn slammer rods,s-glass,6'6" 20-40. Newell reels. I use 65lb braid; tautog still uses mono. Both rods have fish into the teens on them, but still fun on the smaller fish.

The past couple seasons ive lightened it up and have been having fun with the jig and crab set up. boca 50, 7' star rod, 30# braid, 50#mono leader. If im fishing the one and only Sammy rig I'm going heavier.

My favorite rod is a 7'6" Berkeley lightening rod that's about 20 years old. I originally got it for throwing spinner baits and heavy stuff for LMB. Paired up with an abu 7k. It's a very thin rod with a ton of backbone. Landed tog up to 10 lb and a 44lb boat bass.

light to medium weight ugly stick rod with whatever reel you like.. the extra bendy sensitive tip on the rod allows me to see when a slob picks up the jig and swims off, long before I would feel the bite on my other rods.

My setup of choice is a Seeker Blue Lightning BCSW706 7' S-Glass rod paired with a Shimano Calcutta 400 with 40lb braid.

I used to use a Trevala S for BSB and Tautog which was also amazing. OD Mike has that rod now.
