Money well spent!:fury: Why are we paying for this???? Does it belong to Kraft on his property???

TheSpecialist 11-08-2009 06:42 PM

It will save some money in details, less drunks crossing rt 1 and speed up traffic entering and leaving events. I t will also create some much needed work. I have no problem with this since Kraft privately financed the stadium, and to the best of my knowledge made major improvements on his dime to a taxpayer road.

Slipknot 11-08-2009 07:00 PM

I use the crosswalks at the games to get across to and from the lots and I think the money would be better served fixing some of the states dilapitated bridges in need of repairs to make them safe again instead of for another bridge across rt 1
the traffic won't be THAT much better because of it, it's a friggin nightmare already, the lots are a joke getting out of unless you are one of the richy rich with access.

stimulus my ass
it's who's nose can who scratch or nepotism or whatever. I don't know who makes the decisions of where to spend the stimulus, but they need their heads examined. frikkin waste of dough putting signs up etc.:hs:

The Kraft Group, owner of the Patriots and Patriot Place, referred questions to state officials, who said the bridge is key to spurring economic development and jobs along Route 1.
I drive passed this area 3-4 times/week. The crossing is not needed and my tax dollars certainly aren't needed to pay for it. If this was needed, maybe they should have factored it in when they did the massive amounts of construction 2 years ago.

Why in the hell is $9million being spend for a footbridge that will only be used 8 times per year?

BigFish 11-08-2009 07:22 PM

Let me lay this out for you folks.........they say the bridge is needed to help shoppers and fans cross Rt. 1.....well....A. Shoppers will not need to cross Rt. 1 as they will be in the parking lot and will not be there shopping on game days......B. The fans will only be using the bridge 9 games a year (9 days out of 365 a year) not including playoff games!!! It will not be adding more shoppers to the Patriot Place because "SHOPPERS" will not be shopping there on game days....only fans will be! This is an incredible waste of money and entirely misplaced!!!!!:wall::wall::wall::wall: These politicians...I am telling you! You don't think Deval gets good seats for the game do you?????

All road improvements around the stadium have been paid by you and me

JohnnyD 11-09-2009 06:22 PM

This will happen. I guarantee it.

The biggest sign that it will happen?? It's a "Shovel-Ready Project", just like the Sag Bridge. So basically, it will be hastily put together, cause a huge Cluster%$%$%$%$ for people that are local and accomplish very little.

Hundreds of Crumbling Bridges Will Take Years to Repair - Boston News Story - WCVB Boston

"Wouldn't it be nice if the Architectural Schools in MA had their graduate students maybe photograph bridges and design the upgrades and repairs needed as part of their education? They could submit the plans to the state (once the professors weed out the bad ideas),and the state might even be able to use them."

From what I've been told by multiple sources, this is why the CT highways around Hartford are such a giant cluster F around 84, 91, 291, 5, 44, and 6. The company contracted to do the design was facing a fast approaching deadline, had an intern do a design (with the expectation the state would decline and want to make adjustments), but the state approved it as is.

But with an oversight put in place, it could be very beneficial for MA and the Boston schools.

Still curious how a bridge is going to create permanent jobs??

Patrick said the development project would create 4,500 permanent jobs and 4,000 construction jobs.

I think they need to name this sucker THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE :rotf2::rotf2::rotf2:

They use the same math that Obama's peeple used when they said the stimulus money had created 644,000 new jobs. No one has been able to find more than a few hundred.

Well you have 1 or 2 guys build the bridge and then detail cops, traffic study experts, inspectors, traffic cone placer guys, canteen trucks, handy house cleaners ...etc I think thats comes to about 4000.

A foot bridge for 9 mill. That must be one hell of a foot bridge

spence 11-13-2009 07:38 PM

One might ask, how much revenue for MA business has Kraft helped bring to the state?

He didn't do it with the economic state of MA in mind. He did it to make money. The stadium, the new Patriots Place, even our beloved Pats are nothing but a business and are run as such.

My guess is that this footbridge will reduce Kraft's costs by decreasing the number of State Trooper details required in that area, help reduce the amount of time it takes for people to get out of the stadium and in turn, reduce Kraft's per/event expenses.

If there's a chance to pawn those costs onto the state by claiming the safety of fans, of course he would try to.

If the Patriots started not being profitable and had a weak long-term financial outlook, I guarantee the team would be on the selling block. In the end, this is a business.

They why do States give tax credits to encourage business?

As incentives for the business to come to their state and spur economic growth.

This whole thread, and your above examples concern states giving the business money. Should we be thanking Kraft for seeing a business opportunity, buying the Patriots, shaking things up and then utilizing the benefits of multiple championships to expand his business - just because it brings tax money and people from out-of-state here to spend money?

Kraft and the Patriots aren't going any where. This isn't like the 90s when he threatened to move the team to Connecticut because the state wouldn't give him enough money and the permitting required. He has anchored himself and the Pats in Foxboro now. Rodman is no longer the dominant empire on RT1, Kraft's Patriots Brand is.

I sticking with the idea that this is solely a business choice by Kraft to reduce his out of pocket costs on a per/game basis and displace those costs onto the state. This whole situation is Strictly Business.

Kraft is already here, has cemented his brand here and a $9million bridge isn't going to cause him to up and move.

I'm sick and tired of the lazy assclowns that live in my apartment complex getting free government money to support their drinking habit and 5 kids. We don't need successful billionaires getting hand-outs as well - especially after the state just raised the sales tax to 6.25% because the state apparently doesn't have enough tax dollars coming in.

Ya Steve !
Up the road where rt 1 & 95 cross they have been fixing the bridges for the past 4 years, maybe in about another 2 years when those friggin guys actually finish, they can hire that company to build that bridge, but expect about 4 years to get it done.
That joke of a project has been a cash register for both Ma State & town of canton police details !

Not to mention haunts me just about every time I need to go to Boston or come home from Boston during the day time. The best are the unannounced evenings immediately following rush hour where they close it down to 1 lane without any warning.

Yes, one place where I'm far from the left is on these government handouts - be it to the welfare queens next door, or billionaires. And for the record, the one neighbor with the drinking habit is outside the complex stumbling around all the time while her kids run amok, almost getting run over.

That's the problem with apartment complexes that have "tiered pricing" - something I was unaware of when I moved in. My lease is up next month and I'm out - the retail rate for my apartment is $1250, and I found out some people are paying as little as $700 for the same 2 bed, 2 bath place.

sounds like a "Progressive" rent structure

BigFish 11-20-2009 09:07 AM

Will we see Deval watching the Pats from a lush private box this weekend?? Nice....a footbridge which will only be used 9 days out of the entire year.....not counting playoff games????:smash::smash::smash::smash::smash::smash ::smash::smash::smash:

BigFish 12-04-2009 07:25 PM

Again I want to know how a footbridge creates 4000 permanent jobs??? A footbridge used only during 9 regular season games, a few possible playoff games and a few scant concerts and soccer games???

Mike P 12-05-2009 10:23 AM

Look at it this way---if the Feds give him a $9 million gift, he might decide to re-sign Wilfolk instead of letting him walk, they way he's let every other major free agent walk :rotf2:

Swimmer 12-05-2009 01:43 PM

Stick a fork in it, its done. Deval stopped the footbridge.
