The non productive cough from hell

Don't get it... sucks

Every year around mid January my wife developed a dry hacking cough. Its awful and relentless and keeps me up at night. We heat the house with wood and always have a pan of water on the stove to add moisture so not sure its the dry air or not. Its usually around for 4 to 6 weeks and then its gone. Poor thing is miserable when it starts.

Too late
Went thru my household I came down with it last week Tuesday before Thanksgiving ruined our plans to go to my folks for that day. I avoided it for weeks as the kids recovered but one bad nights sleep and got it from the wife even though I had been taking Elderberry concentrate. Run down from over working, building addition for MIL and also taking care of my parents.
Sinuses are not liking this virus

Wife still coughing a bit 2 weeks later now starting a steroid. Sucks but at least it’s not the Wu-Flu

Dry cough, you want pears and your choice of tea with honey. I wouldn't use ginger, cinnamon, or anything warming since you are dried out enough.

Climate control is brutal indoors

I am headed to an urgent care place to get a chest xray. PCP just tried to hold me off...

Urgent care was awesome. Be nice if regular doctors office/my PCP would do the same. They wouldn't even see me...
Made appointment the night before and did pre-registration bs. This was with AFC American Family Care.
Had to wait as is a walk in too. Of the five people I initiated the discussion with in the wait area, all had also been put off by their PCP, three by same Physicians group, but some in different offices... They had different symptoms from mine like stuffed up, sinus, flu, bad cold, but all had the cough...
I was given Covid test, EKG, and chest x-ray. Not pneumonia, which was my fear, but bronchial with inflammation of lungs. Was given a nebulizer (which allowed me to do more than I had been able to do for ten days) and scripts for prednizone and azithromycine. So a steroid and antibiotic. Took them after dinner and then the codeine cough med from PCP. Woke up feeling like a million bucks! I did fade a bit after an hour and ate before taking today's course of meds.

Bottomline; I should have done this week one! Not waited until I was into third week. PCP will hear from me through the patient gateway, after I am really good. That will be to cancel an upcoming review of bloodwork for my new cholesterol drug results. I see no need to get that test until I am done with these meds and am healthy. But they did next to nothing for me while the local urgent care place was aces!

Sounds like it might be time to look for a new PCP, I dumped one years back and love my new one, in on time, informed and easy to get in to see when needed.

My last PCP in the States was a guy in Plymouth, who was the same way. If you had a 9:30 appointment, at 9:32 at the latest, a nurse would bring you in, weigh you, take your vitals, and in less than 5 minutes after that, the doctor would come in, and always ask if I had any questions at the end of the exam.
