Jigging for herring?

Anyone ever jigged for herring? I saw Trevor Gowdy jigging them up in the Merrimac River on a TV show a fews years ago.

I would like to try the same in the Westport River.

Any advice on tackle, technique, and/or experience is appriciated.

We used sabiki rigs in the spring for sea herring.

I fish the merrimack for herring and i use either a sabiki rig with a small weight at the bottom or a 1/64 oz. shad dart with a few pea weights a foot or so up from dart. Last year had problems with the sabiki with the game warden telling us you can only have one hook. The shad darts worked just as well and sometimes better
