Black Bear in my back yard
 

Yep, it's true. Had DEM at the house last night and identified some dropping I found yesterday as that of a Black bear. BTW, I live in Burrillville Rhode Island. Not bear country.

and theres nothing but woods behind me....

plus i hang allot of suet for the pecker heads which usually
draws them in... so ..... i'll be keeping an eye..... peeled.:rolleyes:

We know someone who lives in the remote Exeter/Richmond area who told my wife that she has had bears in her back yard.

Also, and noone I tell ever believes me, but about 5 years ago while driving on Route 2 in the Charlestown/Richmond area at about 2:30 AM going fishing I saw what was definitely a bear walking on the edge of the woods near the side of the road.

Well, with a thick RI accent...Burrillville does sound a lot like bearville :humpty:

Well, I've known my share of bears over the years...they don't like to be rushed...that's for sure.

I'd suggest he sets a table for tea with honey and engage in some lighthearted conversation to get to know the bear, before he suggests any potential change in the bear's venue.

If that fails a 30-06 between the eyes would work as an alternate plan, but if it's at close range he'd better not miss :eek5:

I live in Exeter and I can believe there are bear in the area, tough I have never seen one.

It was only a few years ago that a black bear mother and cub had taken up residence in the Melville Ponds area here in Portsmouth.

There are more black bears here in RI than most realize.

Don't be so surprized when you hear of a report about mountain lion sightings.The rural regions of RI are perfect territory especially with the out of control deer populations.

Wife: I used to see deer in the yard all the time in PA, aren't there any deer here in RI and they are so cute.

Me: There are deer here you just don't see them they stay in the woods.....

Wife: Something ate my green beans and I found deer tracks, that @#$%^er needs to become venison if it does it again......I planted those beans three times this year..

Hung some sheet strips neck high to simulate a fence and started to do as you recommend, but how much beer can one man possibly drink???:shocked:

My wife used to live in Fishkill, in upstate NY. She had the same problem with deer. She planted habanero pepper plants around the perimeter of her garden, and never had another deer try to eat anything :D

I have heard many stories about bear sightings in wooded areas such as Scituate and Richmond! I also heard about four years ago there was a bobcat sighting in escoheag (don't know correct spelling) their out there.....:hidin:

Yup, I live in Richmond and about 5 years ago neighbor saw bear cub sitting at the end of my drive way. His wife said "boy that sure is a big cat." He said,"Nope dear that's a bear!" They are here, just not in big numbers yet. I grew up in the berkshires of MA and we had them quite frequently in my area and yard. The cubs are cute just keep your distance.

Seen more than a few bobcats in my old hometown of Westboro MA, no bears though.

Can ole BigFoot be far behind?
