Mass Permit, and FID renewals

Don't wait to put your applications in for renewal. I put mine in 9 months ago. It expires on the 18th of April. I called today, and was told the only thing holding it up is the State Police Background Check. They are behind due to whatever. This does not help me very much. So I put my application in 3 MONTHS ahead of the expiration, and it still may not be back in time. By the law they have 40 DAYS to get back to you, then you can apply for an appeal in district court. I really don't want to go that route. This sucks. :af:

Slipknot 03-25-2003 12:32 PM

WHAT? they expire?

I better do something....

Slipknot 03-25-2003 12:36 PM

I just looked, I have 8-1/2 months still.

How do ya renew? do they send ya something in the mail or what?

damn thing is only good for 4 years. All that just so I can own a bb gun :smash:

mikecc 03-25-2003 01:05 PM

They will sent it to ya.
I got my renewal last week and it is up in June.

I also heard that the price is going up to $50.

TheSpecialist 03-25-2003 01:11 PM

Slip go down to your local pd. I am assuming it is because of all the homeland security stuff that this is taking so long. I would go 6 months ahead of time if I were you.

fishweewee 03-25-2003 01:29 PM

Whoa!

As always, it appears the non-resident guys fare better than Mass residents do. The turn-around on my Class A LTC last November (keep in mind I have to renew ever year) was only 2.5 weeks! :smash:

Of course, non-residents have to do more legwork when it comes to the renewal process.

TheSpecialist 03-25-2003 10:29 PM

Hmmm, throw in those two custom rods you got this year, and you got a deal. :D

Jenn 03-26-2003 01:01 AM

ouch!....nah...deals off!

redlite 03-26-2003 05:00 PM

How ironic. I just had my renewal thing (finger printing/ paperwork)on my lunch break for my LTC today. Town of Kingston: $25. They said it would be 3 to 4 weeks. Pernit expires in May. They said I will have it by then no problem. Definately follow up with your local P.D. Wouldn't be nice to end up in the clink for illegal possession of a firearm. Good thing we have all these gun laws:smash:

capesams 03-26-2003 05:20 PM

funny thing , here on the cape it doesn't matter how long before hand you go to renew[pistol permitt] we never get them back till atleast 2 weeks after the permitt dies. you just don't go outside with the guns, they stay home.$25. local pd.....you should see the hole in the door leading into the fire station from the pd side,,oops, shot out the coke mach. then theres the one in the top of the counter, cheif said the gun got to heavy  , forgot to take his finger off the trigger,,,nice powder burns too.

TheSpecialist 03-26-2003 06:20 PM

As of right now it's 25 but starting next year it is suppose to go up to 50.00

Redlite the whole process is supposed to take no more than 6 weeks. Last time it took 8 weeks, this was pre Sept 11. The city has done it's part they are waiting on the state police to do their part. I put my renewal in on January 27th or so. The city did'nt send out the stuff to the staties till 2/28. They should have done it within a week of getting an application in.

jettyjockey18 04-08-2003 12:09 PM

slipknot...you need an FID for a bb gun...:?: how is that considered a fire arm??

i just called taunton pd for my appointment to get printed, etc. my appoinment is saturday, my permit expires in late june, so i should be ok...

i've renewed my class a ltc in taunton once already, it went the way the system should go, nice and easy...i've heard some horror stories about some of these police chiefs abusing the power that the legislators gave them and denying people just cuz they could...anyone know if that lady chief is still in carver...i heard she denied every applicant a class a and always won i court too...:af:

redlite 04-08-2003 12:12 PM

She was gone last year. From what I have heard it is no longer a problem to get a class A LTC.

GBOUTDOORS 04-08-2003 03:13 PM

I got the renewal in the mail last week of Feb. for my LTC. Went to the Fairhaven PD paid 25.00 and got it back in just under two weeks. This was good as it ran out April 1st but once you apply you are all set so they told me. If it does not come back in time you are covered as you did your part. But if you do not apply in time you must go to class before they will renew
:smash: :smash: so get it done as soon as it comes in.

TheSpecialist 04-08-2003 09:57 PM

Even if you have applied for your renewal, you may not carry a handgun from your residence once the old one expires, unless you have the new one in your hand. There is no more grace period with the chapter 180 laws.

If anyone is interested in getting a permit, and needs to take a handgun safety course, I am a Mass State police, and NRA certified handgun safety instructor. If I am not too busy, I will do em. Otherwise I could point you in the direction of others.

redlite 04-09-2003 02:04 PM

The madre just called and my renewed class A ltc just came in. Not bad since I did it on 3/26. They sent the pops' out the same day as mine, but his isn't in yet. Odd.

TheSpecialist 04-09-2003 06:25 PM

:af: Mine went in the end of January, I am calling tomorrow.

redlite 04-21-2003 02:47 PM

fishweewee 05-29-2003 02:45 PM

Wanna jump through and ever more ludicrous hoop in Mass?

Ask the police chief in your town for a "Green Card."

Hint: This is not the same id that is handed out by the federal INS.

Let me know how long its takes for him to stop laughing at you.

-WW

redlite 05-29-2003 03:06 PM

Sounds like one of those things you should ask AFTER you get your permit, not before they issue you it.

TheSpecialist 05-29-2003 10:26 PM

Wee wee I was thinking about it seriously. :)

fishweewee 05-30-2003 08:58 AM
