3 oz. !
Wow, good luck with it

pbadad 12-22-2018 08:58 PM

Nice light rod. Definitely I'd have to build up the butt for a good grip.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure about what I'm going to do. I want to keep the weight down but I think the butt will need a little more than cork tape and shrink will provide.

pbadad 12-23-2018 03:23 PM

I do double wrap cork underlayment tape w/shrunk wrap over. Underlayment is much lighter than rubber external tape.

Cork tape and 3m grip tape over it. I screwed up the only 1" shrink that I had so it will have to wait a bit until I get it.

pbadad 12-24-2018 07:43 AM

I have some if u dont get it soon.

Thank you but s/b good. I wasn't going to get to work on it until next monday or tuesday at best. I should have it by then.

Fergal 12-24-2018 09:58 AM

The 25mm won’t shrink down enough to cover the bare blank in between the cork tape. That’s mildly annoying.

I got rid of the grip tape which enabled me to get the 20mm shrink over it. Butt cap on as well. Probably a little while before I get back to it. Current weight with the handle on it.

yes, underwrapping all of them. Should finish the underwraps and apply a coat of finish today. My workspace is pretty cold, it will probably take 36 hours or longer to cure. The next time I work on them will probably be friday.

I like it.

Is that regular nylon that you are going to use CP on. And you are going to put a thin finish coat on before putting on the guides?

If using CP what kind do you like?

Using aftcote finish?

Fergal 01-13-2019 06:52 PM

Regular nylon, no cp. I really only use cp on dec wraps.

Finish is a mixture of threadmaster and pro-kote, ~60:40 tm to pk.

light coat of finish

Nice

I am a bit surprised that the lighter whiter thread with no cp did not get more transuscent over that darker blank.

Everything always looks a bit different dry vs wet with no cp, sometimes for the better and sometimes disappointing.

It's a light gray over silver, it does have a translucent look to it.

Wondering
Is there a reason for two layers versus gray with silver accents other than a great looking

Awesome looking wrap!

pbadad 01-14-2019 08:08 AM

Using silver under a light color thread W/O CP , helps the blank color bleeding through.
And yes , Drew does a very neat wrap. Patience in underwrapping #8 single foots is paramount.

That explains it. I thought the silver was just trim bands. With no CP this silver under grey blends to a nice color.

Fergal 01-14-2019 09:03 AM

I like the look. I could have done the gray in little trim bands but it’s just easier/faster with one wrap vs messing and trying to get a 2-3 thread trim band to work.

Ya, the tapper gives it a nice look , it’s like you like the look of something but not sure why,,, the devil is in the detail... :-)

Same thing applies to architecture...

Going to do a 120 2 pcs soon....

Nicely calculated for symmetry. Wrap colors blend well.
