So, What's Everybody Working on This Winter

Every year there seems to be a plug style that everybody plays with in the Off-season. last year a lot of guy messed around with Eel skin plugs and conrads....year before Roman Nikes seemed to be popping up a lot here.

What's everybody want to try this year while hiding in their Hobbit Hole for the winter.

Myself, I'm gonna mess around with some Cowboys and Dannies.

also gonna try making some SS Bullet knock-offs....and a larger version of the SS needle, make them about the size of a BM Needle.

What say Ye....

BigFish 10-20-2008 09:00 AM

I have a few people (one of them is tall) hounding me to make a BigFish Needle.....so I will be working on a design for one and getting the action just right! :btu:

Clogston29 10-20-2008 09:14 AM

BF, how about an eelskin prey swimmer  - Please

Mr. Krinkle 10-20-2008 09:16 AM

Since this is my first year building, my main goal is just trying to make more of the plugs that have been successful for me so far. I need to learn how to simplify my plug making process. I'd like to do more at the same time. Maybe a duplicator will show up for Christmas??????

I have a lot of requests for darters from friends so I'll be trying those too.

BigFish 10-20-2008 09:16 AM

Josh.....let me know where you would like the groove and a few other details and I will make you some special...no problem!:kewl:

If so drop me a PM

I am going to finish up the Conrads that I promised a few people. With an eelskin attached they swam lovely. I am also going to do some smaller, heavier hawgish style top water plugs and some flat lipped med. size goo goo's, and some more Lido falptails. Of course I have more Hawgs and large boat swimming plugs I need to finish. Lots of owesies too. Hell If I just finished what I already have turned I'd be busy for 5 years.

I'll be spending a little more time on hand carved bunkers.. the ones I make now work, but I know I can make them better...

Working on another "fat boy" style darter... more suited for calmer water... also going to do a little more with laminated wood, more for weight/action than looks... I've found that west system G-flex epoxy bonds as strong as the original wood and is not effected at all by salt water... one of my test subjects lasted through approx 100-125 fish with only a BLO sealing, no primer or paint...

Like to see those handcarves, thinking about doing some of them myself.

I say that you are gonna do some of those wonderbread howdies for me..... a top big water producer. Got a 20# fish on a Saltyric knock off of your knock off Sunday AM. You know where.

Slipknot 10-20-2008 06:39 PM

Skinplugs, needles, spooks like Jiggy's, more pencils, sloped swimmers and pikies, maybe a few howdies too.

nightfighter 10-20-2008 06:49 PM

I want to get a better casting howdy that will dipsy doodle in big water, and will still be able to go sub-surface in quiet water. Got a lot of weighting questions in that formula....

johnny ducketts 10-21-2008 07:27 AM

More spook type topwaters

eastendlu 10-21-2008 09:16 AM

don't worry, that doesn't sound at all gay :heybaby: :hihi:

VTBasser 10-21-2008 03:06 PM

Being a rookie I just want to get a stock pile going so I have stuff at the ready for plug fests, gifts, trades, and swaps.

I'd like to work up a stash of Walking Stick clones, 5" Dannys, spooks, pencils, and needles.

Tagger 10-22-2008 03:48 AM

this winter i'll make stuff i want to fish .. I need a pile of needles large ,,small.. I want to knockoff a cordell red dot 3.5 oz. 6 1/4" for the canal .Not made anymore ..I want to make a casting flaptail ,, again for the canal .. more predators,, and try more equalizers ... Moms having hip replacement soon ,so list may get smaller ..

Charleston 10-22-2008 11:17 AM

Taggage, My MIL had both hips replaced at age 80. She flew through it. Piece of cake, no need to shorten your list!

Diggin Jiggin 10-22-2008 04:10 PM

With the exception of pencils I'm going deep this winter and everything will look like an eel...

I really got into fishing a lot of big rubber in places where I'd normally fish needles and I did real well with it, but its expensive whn the blues show up so I think I'm going to take the plunge and make some molds and start pouring my own...

Way cool. No other experience in life even comes close. Plugs can wait.

crash 10-22-2008 08:21 PM

My shop is finally dry after repeated floodings so I'm going to take care of the long lost of owsies first. Then I'm working on trolling plugs, poppers, and needles.
