Old Tyme Cuttyhunk Popper question

I am making up a few of the original version, 6 7/8" long. MikeCC was kind enough to gift me with some rough sawn red cedar that turns wide enough to give me the O.D. of 1.48 inches. The plans I have show no weight in the plug. Am I right in assuming this is correct, now weight?

That plug made of red cedar will (imho) be too light (with no weight).

You would think it would have to have weight....I thought the goal was to cast it out beyond all the weed and shallow rocks.

I made some a few years ago and put weight in the arse end.....casts like a rocket

Numbskull has made a bunch of these repros.. I believe you need some serious tail wt in these...

Original did not have wt according to Numbskulls Xray

I would make it in a lighter wood and add wt for better casting

Thats what I thought. I am going to seal one that I made and take it to the river to cast it and see what happens.

Those things came both with an without weight. I think many were made with poplar or pine.If you find some you'll also notice the tails weren,t all the same diamiter like the Nantucket lures.

Hey swimmer, I have an original thats been used for a template in the past. No eyes, swivels or paint. I can send it to you to make a copy, just gotta promise to return it.

Take Biteme up on his offer, copying the original he has works great. I didn't use a tail weight and umaple was the wood I used. Pinning the swivels is different.
