Archery Season

Now that the season has been upon us I'm surprised that no deer hunters have posted pictures of their harvest.

This is the first one I shot this year, also shot a six point but didn't take many pics. There is one of him hanging in the deer tails thread.

I messed around with this little one on three different occasions. Rattling antlers pulled him within 11 yards.

Got on stand friday around 20 of 7am, and around 5 of 7 or so I could hear something walking towards the swamp, I couldn't see it though. Around 10 minutes or so later I let off some grunts, and then hit the rattle bag. About 5 minutes goes by and a nice 8pt comes walking up from the swamp, at first he looks like he is going to pass me on the left, but all of a sudden he stops and decides to cut across in front of me at about 26 yds. He gets behind some trees and I draw back, eventually he steps into the lane but at the same time turns directly away giving me a very small window, so I passed on shooting. I let the bow down and gave him a couple of bleats but he kept going, and then started snorting at me, so I hit the grunt tube again and he snorted some more, but he never came back. At around 830 4-5 does came by on my right side heading down to the swamp, but they were 70 +/- yards away so all I could do was watch them go, then off of my left side I heard something. Movement caught my eye and it was a spike with a big body, so I decided if I had the opportunity I would drop him for some meat. I hit the can a couple of times and started closer, then he caught the scent trail I laid down and he started to follow it. He went broadside at 30, and my arrow hit a limb about 15 yards from him and deflected, so needless to say he lives another day and trots off. Not even 5 minutes goes by and I hear something on my left again, and I see another deer about 80 + yards away and walking down towards the swamp. As soon as he crossed my scent trail he stopped, and he looked around for a bit. At this point he was about 30 yards, and very indecisive. Oh did I mention it was a 10pt. So now the blood is pumping and I am waiting for ever for him to move 10 minutes goes by and he decides to step back towards my trail and one of the shooting lanes, but he stops directly behind some trees so I can't see him and he can't see me. Another 5 minutes goes by and I hear him moving again but I can't see him, so I move my body enough to look around the trees and he is following the scent trail the opposite way. So I hit the can and he stops and turns , but won't commit to my direction. eventually he kept going away so I tried grunting, but all that did was push him out. I really wish I had a camcorder with me.

Been seeing deer every sit Nothing on the ground yet though

great story....sounds like you are in a good spot! only a matter of time...

NEXT2NUN 11-10-2012 02:06 PM

Sounds like a good spot Specialist. I went out this AM and when I got to my ladder stand it was gone, people suck!! I'm to old to be climbing up pegs, but thats where im headed now.

Hookedagain 11-10-2012 04:03 PM

I have some tree steps I can give a brother in need.

NEXT2NUN 11-10-2012 08:45 PM

Thanks Hookedagain, I'll be allright the ladder just makes it easier on my old knees. Just went and bought locks for my other stands. I still can't believe some SOB stole that stand. They would have had to take it in a canoe to get it out of where it was. Thanks again

A few years ago I had a climber taken from me. I never left it in the woods, however this time I hunted late and was returning in the am. I left it attached to the bottom of the tree and left. I got there at 5:30 the next morning and it was gone. There were 4 or 5 beer cans about 20 yards from the tree. Only thing I can figure is it was kids partying?

NEXT2NUN 11-11-2012 10:18 AM

Hear you on the kids. There are a bunch that hang out in the woods a couple hundred yards from where that stand was, but there on the other side of the river. I would hope another hunter didn't do it. That was one of my favorite spots, not sure what to do as far as another stand there.

Crap that sucks. I have two ladder stands up, and all told as a group we have like 6 or 7. We are too far in to worry about people stealing the whole stands, but I picked up cable locks last year from #^&#^&#^&#^&s. I got 3 locks for like 15 bucks worth the investment. I did have someone steal my climbing stirrups on my viper a couple of years ago.

Who is heading out tomorrow? I'll be out at O'dark thrirty

Hookedagain 11-11-2012 03:20 PM

I will be out in Swansea all day. I have a score to settle!

NEXT2NUN 11-11-2012 05:30 PM

I picked up A three pack at #^&#^&#^&#^&s last night. Went and locked all my other stands today.
