favorite mixed drink or spirit or whatever...

sorry if this has already been discussed a bunch. just wondering what people prefer.

when i used to drink a lot my favorite drinks were jack and cokes in the fall and winter and long islands/ grateful deads in the spring and summer. straight jack whenever i got together with 5/0 :buds:

when I would be drinking a beer and sipping a shot, the shot would always be VO (it's a Franklin/Italian thing, I think). down in the keys it was always tequila(patron).

what do others like to drink, shoot, spill, whatever?

I am not much of a mixed drink person but on rare occasions I do like a good frozen mudslide made the right way with Absolut,Kahlua and Bailey's,no chocolate syrup or whipped cream.

I inhertited my mother's 45+yr. old Westinghouse blender. All metal and two settings:high and low. This is a tank and has no problem with ice.

Vodka is good for getting drunk but not much else. If I'm trying to get the ladies messed up quick a good Cosmopolitan works fast.

I'm a sucker for a martini but it's got to be gin, very dry and I can't have just one. Unless you're at a martini bar or high end restaurant most bartenders don't make a good martini. Try to only drink these on a special occasion or before a great meal.

The basic margarita when done with silver Cuervo, Cointreau and fresh lime juice is another favorite.

But for a cocktail it's got to be old school, like a rusty nail or something else served small, packs a punch and tastes like it's of another era.

Hey, lemon fizzy, wine coolers, peach schnapps, whatever...you're free to imbibe in a manner of your choosing.

wine coolers, let's not go there

bart 07-30-2011 11:06 AM

Franklin Wine Cooler:
Large glass half filled with ice
Carlo Rossi Burgundy almost all the way to the top
splash of orange soda

a few restaurants and pubs in town actually make pitchers of these. nice to mix it up once in a while...

I was thinking wine coolers in the can.... bad bad that sound good

sangria uses sprite or 7-up

Put me at the bar at Pepe's in Key West. The best screwdriver on earth. Tall frosted glass with ice. Fill it 3/4 with Grey Goose, then move it over under the orange press where the squeeze 2 locally grown oranges on top of the vodka.... It is quite an experience.

Pete I can't remember the name of the bar in KW me and my girl at the time were at that served the strongest drinks I've ever had from a bar. I had an insane tolerance at the time and you know my size. Well the 2 long islands my girl and I ordered absolutely destroyed us. I've never been so shatfaced from only having two drinks. My girl was a mess. She didn't drink as much as me so she did all she could just to keep from passing out. Took us a good 2 hrs to sober up just from those 2 drinks so that we could keep the night alive, but man did I feel like a rookie after those drinks kicked my ass. Oh an you would have never known how strong they were....they tasted fantastic! :buds:

I've actually had that at an Italian restaurant in Franklin.

My favorite mixed drink is a good vodka mixed with ice.

either Reunions when it was open or The Rome. Both owned by same family, the former more of a party scene, the latter has some decent food....

If you purely just want to get trashed in Franklin, go get a couple Mai Tais at the Hang Tai in the middle of town. pure kerosene...

The Rome. Went with a friend who grew up in Franklin. Good food and great service.

Buzz, I think you're referring to what's now called Barrett's. Same owners different name. Had some problems a few years ago with over serving.

good peeps at the Rome. not gonna lie, I've had some embarrassing moments in there and they would still serve me the next night. Their "Rome Chicken Ranch" sandwich is killer...

I caddied for a fella the other day from alabama, and long story short, he gave my boss a little extra tip to give me the next time i worked. A little refilled nip of home made moonshine :jump1:

Had some when I attended Mississippi State a few years ago. violently ill obviously the next day :buds:

If we're talking about the Keys, an all time favorite tiki bar of mine was located on Sugar Loaf Key, about 15 minutes north of KW and less than 10 min from my house on Big Pine. We toughed out a tropical storm at this bar. Nothing like putting down Coronas and Blue Moons, Long Islands, and doing shots of tequila with the whole bar as we all got pelted with wind driven rain. At one point the awning blew off the roof, and when we watched the weather channel it was showing a couple tornadoes to our immediate North and South. Couldn't go in either direction, just had to sit and wait the storm out. Fun, but a little nerve wracking. Still didn't stop a man from enjoying his cheeseburger that he was having for lunch though. He was absolutely drenched, but had a huge smile on his face. Man the Keys were wild. I want to go back except this time I'll go single. I was 25 at the time and met the most beautiful 35 yr old I've ever known at this bar. :smash:

bart 07-31-2011 02:18 AM

Back to drinks. If I'm down in Gansett or Matunuck(Ocean Mist) drinking from a roof deck overlooking the water, listening to reggae music, etc I'll drink a few cape codders from time to time. But like Spence, i too am not a big fan of Vodka. If I'm in the Caribbean I'll drink some kind of rum concoction, even though I hate rum. Still fun to have those types of drinks when you're relaxing on the beach or in a boat floating around. Dos Equis (sp) are enjoyable to drink as well. I remember when I was 17 walking out of the Kong Hong supermarket in Aruba with a huge smile on my face and 2 cases for the hotel room.

1 shot KahluaŽ coffee liqueur
1 shot Irish cream
1 shot Frangelico
1 oz cream
