We recently had 6" of blown cellulose added to our attic, made a HUGE difference. So I been on this kick to hunt down more air leaks since.

Insulation guy told me to look for BLACK insulation and that's an air leak. Says the fiberglass acts like an air filter...turns it black. GREAT tip it works.

Pulled the window molding on the worst window yesterday and found 8 air leaks around the perimeter of the window.

That flir gun is getting rented. Sure save me pulling woodwork if I don't have to. Took me about 2 hours to do one window start to finish.

HIGHLY recommend everyone look at their houses for this.

We dropped the air intake in our house from 2860 cfm to 2070 just by air sealing in the attic and the new insulation with propervents. Real world numbers I watched them do the blower door tests.

That's about 2 bathroom fans running from out to inside. PER MINUTE. No wonder why we have had a hard time heating the house...

I would HIGHLY advise people in Ma to call MASS SAVE. It's WELL worth it. Cost me $312 for the insulation. Nat Grid paid for the rest out of the Green Energy fund that you pay every month on your electric bill. I believe some of this stuff expires at the end of the year and they are 4 months out...so get a call made today. ITS FREE!
