Strange fish

This morning while fishing for albies off of egartown light, my wife caught a fish I never saw before...it was small about 11-12" and according to my book is a bandded rudderfish. Have you guys ever caught one of these before?
Has a head like a small bluefish but has a dark streak from the eye and 1" greyish bands running vertically. It has a tail more like a mackeral then a bluefish.
Cute little critter.

if they were banded and almost streamlined like a bluefish they were more than likely pilotfish

It is a cute little critter. I wonder how it would look swimming under a balloon with a 5/0 in its nose?

Fish_eye would know ! :)

Looks like a banded rudderfish to me. Not all too common from what I can tell.

In recent years there have been more and more of the "southern" fish showing up in the Sounds South of the Cape.
Have seen and heard lots of reports of Banded Rudderfish, as well as others, Trigger Fish, Jacks and such! Darn Rebels coming up here invading our waters!!!!!:p

Banded Rudder Fish, when young can easily be confused as Pilot Fish according to several sources in Google Search Engine .
Enter both names you will see and read what I mean.
The Black Streak from the eye gives it away as the Rudder Fish.

Blue perch permit maybe??:hee:

No doubt a banded rudderfish (Seriola zonata)

I did some work for URI and this animation shows the banded rudderfish in action:
